we really weren't. But recruiting was far more local and difficult to compare nationally. We cleaned house in Texas for about 10 straight years, regularly taking half the top 10 every year, something Sumlin has yet to do (we might in '15)

FYI RB/WR Kirk Merritt and WR Michael Chigbu will be in CS tomorrow for practice.

And '16 RB Kam Martin has scheduled a visit for 4/5. No idea why we are putting him off that long but may be to figure out our '15 situation. Or maybe we're holding some event that day (it's a Saturday)

Chigbu

quote:

“It was difficult (to leave uncommitted) but I have self-discipline,” he said laughing. “I still have a couple other visits though. I want to see some other schools. If Texas A&M stands out the most then I’ll commit to Texas A&M.

Was a little surprised Chigbu didn't commit. Not sure if he will get an LSU offer unless he shows off at their camp.

Wasn't expecting much except making an impression on Merritt which we did. Will be a lot tougher of a pull than Chigbu

Yeah I'm not going to get my hopes up with Merritt. He would really shine in our offense though

I'm not sure we were ready for a Chigbu commit

And Merritt is exactly the kind of guy we have a real strong chance at pulling out of LA imo. We have an awful lot working for us in that situation

24/7 reporting Jarrett Stidham just committed to Kingsbury and his merry band of pirates in Lubbock. Good pickup for them, but it increases the pressure of us landing Kyler now.

huge pickup for Kingsbury. I like it. I'd really like to see him rise to mediocre.

bored/insomnia this morning and was skimming the OU and tu boards. Couple of things that interested me...

- OU fans re Stidham seem to think he'll never be heard of again because NFL QBs only come from major schools I guess. Dunno. Maybe someone should tell Bortles and Bridgewater this

- there is concern among sips that Ryan Newsome will follow Stidham to Tech. We felt Newsome was a touch too small and so we've ranked a few guys above him. We couldn't offer because we were afraid he'd commit. Exciting player who would probably kill at Tech

- Colt Barber of 247 predicts the '15 class. Apparently outside of Kyler and Sheffield, our class is complete. Barber is a Baylor homer btw and Burton ain't got nothing on him LINK.

- Ronald Jones's top 6 are: #USC, #Arkansas, #Iowa, #Oklahoma, #Miami and #Baylor per Rivals yesterday. The more I've thought about it the less I like him for us tbh. No idea where our coaches are, but I'm all-in on Kirk Merritt.

- Speaking of, Merritt is supposedly visiting Texas in the future and for some reason they think they have a legitimate shot at him or Guice

- Strong is trying to really close practices and even players' parents are being told they will not have access. I assume that means recruits will not be allowed either. That's a torbush wow to me

- OU thinks Malik Jefferson is all us. They also have quite a bit of vitriol for Sumlin

- Apparently QB Dormandy (Boerne) got a bit of personal attention at the tu JR Day. Little under the radar bc he sat last year with injury. Prob not someone we will look at bc he has a longer delivery but he might be a good WCO QB. I really can't get a handle on what they are trying to do but it doesn't appear we will be crossing paths on QB targets much

I keep reading this all on their sites and just find it hard to believe they land him

it's a bit odd really. Clemson and FSU have done pretty well pulling recruits out of SEC states but in both cases, they have multiple games in the areas they recruit well (GA and FL).

I would never count them out of it - they are a great university and have very nice facilities. And I could make the case why either guy wouldn't go to LSU. But honestly it just seems a long shot that they would be the ones to benefit if that happened.

Honestly, I've always thought Derrius Guice should consider other schools if he wants to play early.Fournette is a beast and Brossette is very very good in his own right, that I really don't think he won't see much playing time out of it until he's a junior barring injury or some other dilemma that allows him to slide up. Even though he is a Baton Rouge kid. I guess his love for LSU might have him going there but I wouldn't be surprised if he went elsewhere.

And Oklahoma fans are just mad they can't have access to north Texas like they used to.

And I'm all in on Merritt too. There's a couple of other nice players we could look at in the same type of role like J'mychal Hasty or that kid from Bellaire high who's pretty good ( can't remember the name ) but Merritt is just as good if not better and his skill set goes with our offense more.
