I'm really liking this class so far. A couple of question mark signings like Wiggins and Points but other than that it looks very solid.

I really hope we start becoming the go to option for New Orleans area kids in the SEC after LSU.

From afar you would say that this is just one incident, and hopefully the trend continues ff the kid had offers from State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee... but with a first year coaching staff, new conference, I think at this stage it is more of an unknown/mystery. The rest of the SEC can't really negatively recruit against us because we haven't had a chance to lose in person to these teams.

Hopefully Sumlin storms out of the gate, otherwise we could be in trouble recruiting in Louisiana with a couple years of losing. We need to thoroughly beat the States/Ole Misses of the conference to get some solid ground, otherwise we won't be able to get any recruiting magic without a new staff.

So your recipe for success is taking the second-tier talent in LA away from MSU and Ole Miss?

I think in A&M's history the roster has been 92% Texas kids, and wherever others sprinkle in from, Louisiana has been number 2. I think now being in the SEC, the only reasonable assumption is that the Louisiana percentage is going to grow, even if marginally.

I think it will more so help being the go to second option for Louisiana kids, which can help develop pipelines, and give us a boost over other teams in the conference. I mean look at a team like OU which really feasts on kids growing up in Texas, they may not win head to heads with tu, but of all those kids, they really get the next best. I mean there are even Texas kids that have had offers from LSU, Alabama and Florida that would go to a team like Oklahoma state due to proximity and regional significance.

And seeing someone like Fran, that essentially turned his back on Louisiana, and then see someone like Sherman who made concentrated effort to grab players, I really think it has a positive impact. There is more than one occasion where players were told by Sherman that they could be the first in the parish in the pipeline, blah blah blah. If you already have a bunch of 3 stars in Texas, getting one or two from Louisiana could be a really positive thing if it helps land a 4 star down the road. Also in the lineman department, where you have to do a lot of guesstimating on size and frame, expanding A&M's pipeline to a focused effort will lead to some success, I would hope. It obviously isn't the whole recipe, but how could it hurt?

Ellis is hardly a second-tier talent. He is a 4* DB with offers from Tenn, Auburn, Florida St, Neb, Miss St, Ole Miss, and others. The point that was being made was that we need to start strong and beat all the lower tier SEC teams on our schedule to maintain recruiting momentum. IMO, that is 7-5 at the absolute minimum, but 8-4 with bowl win would be preferable. Wins over Florida, Ole Miss, Miss St, and Mizzou are definitely possible.

I never directed my statement towards Ellis, so I'm not sure why his offer list is relevant? Your fellow poster stated that he wanted to be the second option for Louisiana kids, particularly nola, when LSU did not offer and they were debating whether to attend Ole Miss or Miss St. or Texas aTm. I thought that was an odd perspective.

As for Ellis, I'll reserve comment on that subject for many reasons.

Ah I didn't see Auburn, but 4 SEC teams(even if two of them are Ole Miss and State) is a good sign.

Where was my comment directed at Noel Ellis? Your poster made a general comment on LA kids and discussed taking them from the likes of MSU and OM when LSU did not offer. Nothing in that specifically involved or implicated Noel Ellis because he just committed to you.

Again. You misread. I only listed Miss State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee because those were the SEC teams I saw on his offer list.

Fair enough. In the context of your initial post and then reading your second post where you outlined recruiting under prior staffs, I assumed this was more of a general sentiment.
