Is he going to be an upgrade or about the same as the last guy? I know little to nothing about him and I was curious how you felt things were coming along.

I think he's gonna be an upgrade, plus it helps that he runs the same offense that we've been running so the transition is seamless.

Dobbs has been throwing the ball better than he ever has.

I'm not excited by the dude, but I bet he will call a better game than Bajakian. I don't think the offense will look much different, except maybe being faster with more continuity. Seems he will be an easy person to blame if the offense sucks, which it might if the OL doesn't improve (if that's possible).

I wasn't excited at first. He'll improve the OL for sure and I think he will eliminate dumb shite calls that Bajakian did sometimes. Also, probably will play to our players strengths better than Bajakian did.

I think the new OC will make us better by eliminating low percentage plays and plays that we just couldn't execute.

He has a NC ring as an OC.

Bajakian was the weak link in the previous coaching staff. I would almost bet money that he was quietly told to look around for another job.

As Goulet said, I'm not excited and I don't think it'll be some overnight change but I do think the play calling will improve with him. Baja, to whatever extent he had control, made some big headscratching decisions

No but he is helping the OL (one of the benefits of hiring him was his experience coaching OLs and even installing zone blocking which is what we use - it's a bit more complex for OLs to learn, especially in their first year, because it's dependent upon technique and footwork over muscle - you can see how that caused a new line problems last year especially the freshmen). The way the OL is pulling and blocking isn't like last year at all. They are better but only game time will tell how much better and that progress could still be very incremental considering we still have OL players that consist of mainly guards playing positions that aren't their natural ones. Hopefully, Richmond or Blair (who improves daily but at a painfully slow pace, though he's getting a lot closer now) can take over at least one of the tackle spots. If that happens it will help a lot because we can shift guys back to their natural positions.

Ugh, this was when UGA had it's worst OLs with Stacy Searels. As soon as we switched to man blocking with Friend. I will say that AU's zone blocking scheme has been pretty good the past few years.

Thanks for the detailed response

No problem.

We've been using it for the past 2 seasons but that green oline last year couldn't handle it. Which anytime you give guys who've never played much and others who haven't played at all a technique driven scheme it's harder than just relying on power/muscle. Plus Worley holding the ball forever didn't do anyone but the other team any good. Thankfully this will be year 2 of that for them and they should have the techniques down better. DeBord's just another set of eyes on the OL but so far it's helped - again I put that in incremental terms because our guys aren't exactly ideal.

BTW, I can't understand why Searle's would install a zone blocking system unless y'all were going to run more of a spread or at least pro/spread.

It was about the time we promoted Bobo so maybe he wanted to switch the blocking scheme. Once we switched back to a man scheme with Friend we started seeing drastic improvements. I do think that most of that is with the way Friend rotated and coached his guys up. Searels stayed with 7 guys and Friend went 10 to 11 deep (get your mind out of the gutter pervs).
