The funniest thing about defending that stupid chart is apparently Butch didn't think they were available online for the average man to look at. A quick good search would show that either 1. Butch's chart is wrong, or 2. Butch needs glasses or the most likely scenario, 3. He didn't think Hurd was going to punch it in from 10 yards out on 3rd down and was completely unprepared for what to do next so he just ran the field goal unit out.
HOW DARE YOU, WHERE DID YOU FIND THAT SECRET CHART??????????????
VOL NETWORK MUST BE LEAKING DATA. SOMEBODDY GET ME BOB KESLING.

I may be rambling right now but heres another thing that pissed me off.
Did Butch ever defend Ethan Wolf after Knoxville's own Mike Griffith wrote that ridiculous hit piece last week? I don't recall anything about Lyle stepping up for Wolf, whether or not the report was correct. I guarantee Saban would've eviscerated any media member that singles out any of his guys like that. Hell, even coaches lower on the pole compared to Saban like Bert or Mullen would've ripped that guy a new arse.
Butch LOVES to go after anyone that calls him out, whether it be media members (remember his back pocket list he mentioned before?) or the fans that he loves to take passive aggressive shots at.
Butch should've jumped to Wolf's defense at the next PC, point out Mike Griffith and give him the "I'm a man, I'm 40" Gundry routine. Butch missed a very easy opportunity to win some of the Tennessee fanbase back but it wasn't about him so he didn't bother addressing it.

. I don't know how to explain it but theres just something about him that rubs people the wrong way sometimes.
Well I'm the situation you listed I know what pissed me off was him straight up lying about what the chart said. We all know damn well it said go for 2 in that situation and he is gonna sit there and just straight up lie to us
As you sort of said, a mistake is ok. I frick up, you frick up, butch fricks up, it happens. Own it and move forward
Saban fricked up by even trying to kick the FG that turned into the kick 6 against Auburn and by not having his special teams better prepared to cover the return. I guarantee you his reaction to that game isn't even comparable to Butch's reaction to the Florida game in 15
All that said I really don't enjoy digging up the past in this situation, go win us 9 games, prove you are willing to adjust, and all will be gravy

What was the article regarding Wolf about? I missed that

The defense certainly has the talent and I believe the coaching staff was upgraded. Like the staff on that side of the ball. The health of the oline has me concerned and I can believe what was said about Butch. It all sounds plausible.
But with the defense and how absolutely awful they were last season I have a mental block. They should be good, but i am going to need to see it to believe it.

Butch is not very smart. That's the bottom line. Not comfortable with criticism either obviously. But I think the fact that he just isn't a bright guy is probably the biggest issue.
Stubborn as well, although that is a common characteristic among many successful people, especially coaches.
I do think he is a good guy underneath it all.

Well to be fair personel wise that D from halfway through the year onwards wasn't even a shell of what it originally was

Exactly, in general I think the fan base is so divided because in '15 we were still building talent but we looked great in most of our games; played hard and smart. But then '16 rolls around with high expectations and the team never looked like that '15 squad except for the 2nd half of UF. Coupled with personnel drama and injuries and it was a complete shite show. So there are a lot of people who think '16 was an indicator vs many who think it was an anomaly. The nice thing is that this season should be the tipping point one way or the other. And at this point with fan perception of Butch, it's piss or get off the pot; his personality will not buy him any more time with the fan base only results will.

The starting RB for GT being dismissed is an interesting turn of events.
