Steele is All-Vol and its a damn disgrace that he hasn't been brought home.

I could get behind Mullen if Steele comes home

If we're gonna hire Steele we need Cooter too. Imagine having the Steele Cooter.

I'm flattered you're interested in my opinion.

To be honest, I have a really difficult time evaluating Mullen. Is he doing better than most people would at a program like Mississippi State? Sure. But he's just not winning that much, either. If we hire him, we're basically banking on mediocre at MSU translating into elite at Tennessee. I'm also skeptical of his recruiting ability. Sure, it's probably better than it used to be (I'm guessing here), but it's still nothing special, and I don't think it's exactly considered a strength of his. Is he going to bring in top 5-10 classes here? I'm not particularly optimistic. I think Steele's success will depend on that.

This may not be popular, but if we're going to look for coaches overachieving at lower tier programs, I'd rather see if Pat Fitzgerald is tired of fading into obscurity at his alma mater and see if he wants to hit the big time.

That's not to say I definitely think Mullen would fail here. However, I don't think it would strike that much fear in our opponents, either. I think the most likely scenario is we would beat the average to bad teams and lose to the great teams far more often than not.

FWIW Mullen has out performed his talent by a wide margin at state

Of course he wouldn't HAVE to do that if he recruited better but he is at State which is not an easy place to recruit well at

It's harder at state than it is at OM and we all saw what they had to do to get some good croots...
