WALK OFF GRAND SLAMS. Kelly is attainable. Gruden is attainable but would take some very slick maneuvering by Currie and a lot of trust in King Jon. Stoops would probably be the safest hire and guarantee almost yearly trips to ATL but I'm not sure he takes it yet. Maybe next offseason.

Too similar to Butch will not be considered

Lol would be the greatest day and coaching tenure in VOLS internet history but obviously not happening

He would take it but would be a little underwhelming. Not sure what I would think about this

IYO, what you it take for Currie to make a move?

Brohm is doing big things at Purdue early in his tenure but is he the fit that will satisfy the Tennessee fans? This is a hungry fanbase and imo Currie is playing with fire if he goes out and hires another project type.

Not saying Brohm wouldn't work but he is not a big name and after the way the last three hires have went, I feel like Currie would want to make a splash.

I'm flabbergasted that Dan Mullen would not take this job. My god how the prestige of this position has dropped.

Are you saying he passed on it at one point or that you just don't think he would?

Speaking to the latter you gotta realize it's not 1995 or even 2005 anymore. Schools like state are now paying these guys close to the same money we would unless we went to the insane Saban/Bama level

ETA: nvm on the question part, I see the VF post you were responding to

This is what has to happen to ever escape 8/9 win purgatory. Tennessee has the money to be a power player and we are going to have to invest in an actual game changer if we want to compete for championships imo

I believe Currie wants his own football coach.

The biggest obstacle is the big money people.

I know nothing was ever said publicly but what's the rumors on why Stoops left the OU job? I hadn't heard anything other than legit retirement which I am pretty dubious of

Jon Gruden-Not happening, if he coaches again it will be in the NFL

Chip Kelly-I would be ecstatic with this hire, but I don't think it's realistic

Bob Stoops-Don't think he coaches again. Think he'll end up on TV

Dan Mullen-Would be a good hire in my opinion. I think it would be a good move for him. He goes to a school with better resources and an easier division

Justin Fuente-Don't think he leaves VT, he'll be there for a while

Willie Taggart-He's still a question mark for me, I'd like to see how he does with Oregon this season

Bobby Petrino-Meh, I'll pass

Jim Bob Cooter-I think he's an NFL guy. Think he waits out for an NFL HC job

Randy Sanders-No head coaching experience, and we HAVE to get this next hire right. Too much of a risk in my opinion

Brent Venables-Should get an interview, I'd be skeptical though

PJ Fleck-I want to see how he does with Minnesota first

Lane Kiffin-frick NO

Les Miles-No

Phil Fulmer-No

Can you elaborate? Also what is the status of Tamaurice Martin? I inexplicably forgot to mention him on the hot board

Gruden has had and would have real interest in the job but I think he likes the idea of being pursued more than committing to taking the job.

I think with his son in school here, the family ties, the roster being in better shape than last time it could be done but it would take a very strong pitch by Currie, Peyton, Haslam and some people on the academic side.

Last time he essentially told his people that he was open to taking the job if the money was right but he had some pretty crazy ideas like that he would report only to the school board and would have full hiring and firing capabilities over everyone from assistants to compliance.

Essentially he would be the director of football and Currie would be the AD for the other sports.

He would probably need to be talked down on some of that for UT to consider it but I think if Gruden is hired he would pretty much have to have total and complete control over every aspect of the program.

It's Tee time. Just started a thread on why. That said, I'd take Fulmer in a heartbeat. Yeah he's old and been out of the game for a while but the man can coach. Give him a solid OC (and he has the connections to get one) and we'd be sitting pretty or at least prettier.
