re: What's the reason for Devin White being rated so low in the recruiting rankings?

Actually, I said I had not see it on THE recruiting board, which was true. That quote is from an old arse thread.
Here you go

Meh. Broussard, Fulton, and Greedy are all better. I remember when he got that massive bump right after he named Bama his leader. Went from like 124 overall and the No.11 athlete to 29 overall and the No.1 CB. Didn't do a camp or anything, just got a random 100 spot bump. Not weird at all.

You want to keep going on this?

It looks like you're on top of Lawrence's and allens recruitment. Orgeron and LSU's staff should just quit recruiting them.

Let's get back on subject.
Is white growing too big for the rb position? I know some players have had success (Jerome bettis, Brandon Jacobs, etc but the kid is already 250+. He'll probably gain 10-20 pounds in college. Obviously as a linebacker 260 isn't rare, just curious is all.

Ultimately, he's a LB and will be a damn good one
Posted on 4/25/15 at 9:15 am to public_enemy
I kind of wish we were pushing hm a LB.
Posted on 4/25/15 at 9:58 am to lsusteve1
Nah. He could play both. But if he just recently ran a 4.57 laser timed 40 at 253 pounds, he's a RB.
Posted on 4/25/15 at 10:06 am to Bama3714
I mean 40's are cool and all as a rb, but that could also translate to lb in coverage and running sideline to sideline. I just think he projects better as a 3 down linebacker after watching more film.

Have you seen the pic of him walking with Saban last weekend?
He has a gut. I imagine he would slim up in a college S&C program, not gain weight. He could get down to 240 and be an absolute monster.

With someone like this, I think you tell him he can play wherever he wants to play. Work out the details later.
With Bama leading for Mack Wilson, Ben Davis, Erroll Thompson (who is blowing up a bit right now), and Jaquan Yulee, and our need for numbers at the RB position, I'd imagine Bama would want him to play RB.

We're recruiting him as a linebacker but if he decides he only wants to be a running back, we'll still go after him hard. We've recruited well at running back under Freeze but haven't had one pan out for one reason or another.
But like I said, no matter where he goes or which position he plays, the kid will be an animal.

You've recruited well at running back but none have panned out?
Doesn't make much sense unless you're saying yall landed some 4 stars but they were overrated. If that's the case then freeze needs to reevaluate what he's looking for in a back, because Ole miss has had some really damn good running backs come out of the program

So obvious that the decline is real for Bama and LSU. Both will finish in the top 5 in recruiting and will probably be #1 & #2...

He's rated so lowly because he is leaning Arkansas. Happens every year, but we don't mind

Eh not necessarily. White can still play running back IMO.

Well we signed four four-star backs in 2013. Wilkins is finally panning out, Dodson was good but transferred because of playing time, Brazley was overrated as he is just a situational guy, and Kailo Moore moved to CB where he's more suited.
This year we signed Eric Swinney who was wanted by everyone. Next year we have Justin Connor and Denzel Mitchell, both highly regarded.
The reason they haven't played well is Houston Nutt left the cupboard so barren on the offensive line. Justin Bell has been a starting guard for us and he wouldn't be on the 85-man for any other team in the West. Now that we have recruited really well on the offensive line, I expect them to do better.
LSU knows as well as anyone how awful our interior offensive line has been after Davon Godcheaux had 45 tackles for loss against us this year

No offense but this is a poor excuse in year four. Arkansas had an absolutely terrible OL when Bielema came in and now we will have one of the top ones in the SEC in year three with four of his recruits starting and nine of the ten in the two deep being his guys as well.
Your issue is that Matt Luke is just not a good OL coach. Until Freeze replaces him, I doubt your OL ever lives up to their recruiting rankings.

It's not our excuse in Year 4 but it was in the first three. We couldn't even field a scrimmage of scholarship linemen most of the time. Now we have a ton of depth on the offensive line with three former five-stars in Laremy Tunsil, Javon Patterson and Rod Taylor. Also good players in Christian Morris, Fahn Cooper, Ben Still, Robert Conyers, etc.
I fully agree with what you said about Luke though. He is a garbage offensive line coach and if our line struggles this year with the multitude of talent across the board, he will be gone. There are no excuses for him now. We have depth, talent and experience at every position except quarterback.
