Say there is a fan of LSU football who invites a 5 star player from Texas to this weekend’s SEC championship contest in Atlanta. Said fan provides transportation, lodging and tickets to the event. He initiates contact and is no way affiliated with LSU In an official capacity. I have three questions.

1) can LSU get in trouble with no knowledge?

2) can fan get in trouble and if so how?

3) and probably most likely, what kind of consequences would recruit face if any?

Role of Boosters

"Only institutional staff members are permitted to recruit prospective student-athletes. Generally, NCAA rules prohibit anyone else from contacting (calling, writing or in-person contact) prospects or the prospect’s relatives or guardian for recruiting purposes.

1) can LSU get in trouble with no knowledge?
Yes, it's called institutional control.
quote:

Institutional control of athletics is a fundamental requirement of NCAA legislation. Specifically, the NCAA constitution states that the university must:

"Insure those members of university staff, student-athletes and other individuals or groups representing the university’s athletic interests comply with NCAA rules and regulations. As a member of the NCAA, the university is responsible for the actions of its alumni, supporters and fans."

quote:

2) can fan get in trouble and if so how?
"If a violation occurs, it may jeopardize a student-athlete’s eligibility for intercollegiate competition, jeopardize a school’s membership status with the NCAA or cause a booster to lose access to all booster benefits."

quote:

3) and probably most likely, what kind of consequences would recruit face if any?

"If a violation occurs, it may jeopardize a student-athlete’s eligibility for intercollegiate competition, jeopardize a school’s membership status with the NCAA or cause a booster to lose access to all booster benefits."

quote:

As a booster, you may not:

. Contact a prospect in-person on-campus or off campus.

.Contact a prospect by telephone, email, Internet or letter.

. Provide transportation for a prospect or the prospect’s relatives or guardian.

. Provide free or reduced-cost tickets for a prospect or the prospect’s relatives or guardian to attend an athletic event.

What is said fans relationship with the recruit? Are they family friends for an extended period of time?

"Boosters are not precluded from continuing established friendships with families who have prospective student-athletes. However, boosters may not encourage a prospect’s participation in university athletics or provide benefits to prospects that were not previously provided."

Nope, he's playing the long con and will act as an LSU fan, fly Evans out for the game, and then self report the violations at a critical time.

No, the OP is implying that he will bring Demond Demas to the game, then try to render him ineligible so A&M can't sign him. The entire OP is a troll.

Y’all are missing the fact that nothing he said makes the fan a booster.

If he’s not a booster, school can’t get in trouble for it. You can’t control people with no affiliation.

This. As the upper middle class grows and accumulates wealth, it's not far fetched to foresee rich idiots try to act like boosters without a school's blessing. Even for many of us on here, a few thousand dollars isn't what it used to be.

I don't think anything would happen. Hell, they made a movie about a family of Ole Miss fans housing a kid from Tennessee, who ended up going to Ole Miss.

It will help UGA about as much as OP's "LSU has no pass rush. Fromm has dropped dimes on better defenses" thread over on the SECr.

Has said LSU fan ever been considered a booster by purchasing season tickets of any kind or something like that? If so that's how we got one of our level 1 violations.
