And it’s back to October and not fricking September

Yeah man. I wish it were on Halloween weekend. I’m a musician and we would play Chelsea’s down in BR when it was at North Gate and say what you will about our two groups of folks but we both like to party and that is my favorite holiday. Partying with Auburn is plain.

Sounds like they picked the wrong side.

If you had read my link they weren’t involved in the war until the guys wife and 2 of his 8 kids were killed by union soldiers blowing up the steamboat they on while traveling from Missouri back to Baton Rouge. Then revenge and anger kicked in and he started fighting for the south. He was my great 4x grandfather. His father was the mayor of Baton Rouge, and the mayors uncle was the owner of Destrehan plantation in New Orleans (though he was dead before the war). The owner of Destrehan (Stephen) was married to Zelia Destrehan and was business partners with William Kenner (who the city of Kenner was named after). Stephen upon his death freed all his slaves in his will and deeded them parcels of land to build their own town and community but the state of Louisiana shut it down claiming “he wasn’t of sound mind when he wrote the will.” Note he didn’t go purchase the slaves he inherited them through his wife and FIL. I have documents he wrote where he spoke of his opposition to slavery and this was in the 1830s well before the war. It’s fascinating history I have a lot of documents and stuff on it that my family had put together in a family book that traces every person in our family back to Scotland in the 1600s. Point being, not everyone involved in the war or slavery at any point was a traitor or an evil person. Circumstances, politics, economy forced many into having to defend their livelihoods and even when some tried to do the right thing others would put a stop to it.
