that's just the feeling im getting right now. a week ago id be saying that it would be a surprise if he didn't end up at a&m but, concerns over early playing time seem to be making him question a&m a bit. well see. but, to me, something just feels off

That's the down side to recruiting on an elite level year in and year out.

On one hand your fanbase is very excited about landing Kyle Allen and on the other hand landing him last year could keep you from wrapping up a 5-star QB from your home state, that is a legacy no less.

Welcome to Alabama's nightmare.

I am much more confident in that Kyler is headed to CS. His dad isn't dumb, and I don't think anyone would expect Kyler to come in and play right away anyhow. I see him doing exactly what JFF did, and that's redshirt, get some more weight on him, and hopefully be close to 190-200lbs his 2nd year on campus.

I personally think that the playing time has been blown way out of proportion.

When was the last time Alabama signed a 5-star QB?

I was referring to our overall recruiting. Teams use Alabama's depth chart against them all the time.

But last year Cornwell was a 5-star and ranked as the #1 Pro-style QB in the country. A poor Elite 11 showing dropped him but he was on his way to earning that 5th star back when he got injured.

Who were Oregon's besides Ngata and Matthews in that same timeframe?

I don't know what you consider a standout but Moore dropped to the third round. Off the top of my head, Oregon has had Dion Jordan, Kiko Alonso, TJ Ward, Patrick Chung, Jarius Byrd, Igor Olshansky go 2nd or better, and less notable players, but drafted nonetheless, in Terrance Mitchell, Taylor Hart, Spencer Paysinger, John Boyett, Walter Thurmond, Matt Toeaina, RaShon Harris, Nick Reed, and more.

That's the point, you're an Oregon fan.

The casual fan only knows about Haloti Ngata and Casey Matthews...MAYBE Patrick Chung and Dion Jordan.

The casual college football fan, however, also knows who Von Miller, Damontre Moore, and Ty Warren are.

If you truly want to keep score, since Dat Nguyen, the following A&M defensive players played in the league:

1999 Draft

Dat Nguyen (3rd round)
Rich Coady (3rd round)
Warrick Holdman (4th round)

2000 Draft

Jason Webster (2nd round)

2001 Draft

Ron Edwards (3rd round)
Michael Jameson (6th round)
Jason Glenn (6th round)
Ron Flemons (7th round)

2002 Draft

Rocky Bernard (5th round)

2003 Draft

Ty Warren (#13 Overall)
Sammy Davis (#30 Overall)
Terrence Kiel (2nd round)

2005 Draft

Mike Montgomery (6th round)

2006 Draft

Johnny Jolly (6th round)

2008 Draft

Red Bryant (4th round)
Chris Harrington (6th round)

2010 Draft

Jordan Pugh (6th round)

2011 Draft

Von Miller (#2 Overall)

2012 Draft

Terrence Frederick (7th Round)

2013 Draft

Damontre Moore (3rd Round)
Sean Porter (4th Round)

Notable Undrafted Free-Agents

Melvin Bullitt (pro-bowler)
Michael Bennett

Total "2nd round or better" defensive players = 5
Total drafted defensive players = 21

Compare that to Oregon (1999-2014)

Total "2nd round or better" defensive players = 8
Total drafted defensive players = 23

Not that much of a difference.

The point is for someone to say "A&M hadn't had a defensive player of note since Dat Nguyen" is pure stupidity, especially, when Von Miller and Damontre Moore were 1st team All Americans very recently.

Clearly Dat Nguyen wasn't a standout because he "dropped to the third round"

I never said any of that. Someone asked about Oregon's standouts and tried to answer. Don't shoot the messenger.

I didn't say Nguyen wasn't a standout - just what is a standout?

It was quickly refuted in the thread by our own posters. Von Miller is a household name.

So turns out the Oregon 247 mods just made up the info about Murray contacting them. It simply never happened.

Didn't Hamm say the same thing about Kyler being in contact with Oregon? I could be making that up

Oregon 247 mods never said they were contacted by Murray. They never talked to Murray that I know of. Their story has been that Murray contacted the Oregon coaches and started a new dialogue after Oregon moved on.

Y'all remember when I said a few pages back that Kevin told ****** that there was ~"some misinformation going around out there"? I haven't checked, but pretty sure I did.

Most Duck fans think Murray is an Agg - along with our mods. Hopkins isn't the type to make stuff up. After seeing the A&M mods in action, Oregon's are much more professional.

I fully expect Murray to pick A&M tomorrow, but if he doesn't should we expect a Rashaan Evans type meltdown?
