This won’t be a popular take from a UGA fan but I thought Fromm shrunk in the spotlight with less talent around him and turned pro to run away from expectations of a Top 5 program.

I know Fromm played much better his first two years (and played well in several big games) but he had serious holes in his game and there were certain throws he didn’t like to make. My kids went to Harrison HS and was so excited when Fields committed to UGA - we would be the Natty Favorites now had we made the right choice a year ago.

Fromm wanted to sink into anonymity by turning pro and being an NFL backup or 3rd stringer. Fromm was a DGD and appreciate his tenure at UGA but Kirby and staff bet on the wrong horse and blew it with Fields. Hope Kirby learned from it.

Its unpopular because you are flat out wrong on your assumption and have been told multiple times over why and yet continue to do so.

No not wrong at all. Kirby didn’t want to give Fields playing time he earned to avoid the dreaded QB controversy. The limited way he was used was designed not based on ability or grasp of playbook but more on avoiding distraction and controversy. Many of the players on the team were also frustrated at it as they all knew who gave them the best chance.

12 months later Fields finishes 3rd in the Heisman as a true Sophmore.

Had Fields been given a larger role, he probably would have stayed - there was no reason for him to believe it would have been open competition his Sophmore year given the way the Freshman year went.

Fields definitely made the right decision for him - that much is clear - it is also clear that UGA made the wrong call.

Dude, we’re talking about your assumptions on Fromm and why he entered the draft and you write all about Fields. You have an addiction. Get help.

Anyways this is a thread on JTD so let’s keep it that way.

Anyways, I'm sure this won't blow back at all on UGA QB recruiting in the future.

This is what everyone said about Eason and Fields, but here we are.

I know for a fact that it hurt UGA with dual threat guys - especially parents of black QBs just because of a historical perception of our history with these guys at QB. (Don't bark at me. Just relaying info.)

Kids love Kirby and UGA, though. Historical perception doesn't matter to them. If Newman lives up to the hype this vanishes.

As far as Mathis goes, cleared to play is cleared to play. I'm hearing he could move to WR if he doesn't at least win the backup job. Hard to see him or Beck beating out Daniels in 21.

I wouldn't count out Beck. He has been with the program since January. His junior year he was Mr. Football in Florida in 2018 so we know he is a baller. He had some demons in his game the first half of his Senior season which caused his ratings to drop but the kid is talented. Reminds me a lot of Jacob Eason.

Poor Carson lol thought after Newman it would be his turn

Doubt it now

Wait. Are you under the impression that once you get a good player you should not try to bring in better players at that position?

Not buying this at all. MJ Morris from Carrollton is one of the top dual threat QBs in '22 and I think he'll be our QB commit if Stockton follows Bobo to USCe as many expect.
