Is it better to take proven transfers than kids you've recruited for 5 or 6 years?

If a kid is in it for just the money he's not gonna sit behind a jr. and learn the ropes.
So, guys like Deon are looking for the kids A&M got that havent played yet, but feel they're better than the jr in front of them.
With transfer rules as they are they may even leave a school they want to play at because money is better elsewhere.

I don’t think we know the answer yet. I also think it depends on the school and the coaching staff. What are their strengths. Are they better game day scheme guys, are they better X’s and O’s, great at selling the school. I think you gotta go with your strength.

I think its obviously safer if you can land a guy that has PLAYED and been successful for a few years at either a G5 or lower tier P5 school than it is to take a HS to plug a hole.
I don't think its better or worse to take a kid that was highly recruited but not playing at his current school over a HS kid. You don't know what either kid gives you since you've never seen either really play in college.
I also don't think portal hunting for your entire class every year is very sustainable. Look at LSU's defense for example. Last year we were able to field a pretty stout defense mainly through the portal. All those kids left and we were forced to portal shop again this year and it hasn't gone nearly as well despite similar success at convincing kids to come to LSU.
You need the HS kids to be your base and then use the portal to fill holes.

If you can get sophomores or juniors yes …to me one yea it’s hard to get the most out of each player in a new system . I will say if the talent is the right fit even a senior could do as good as a freshman 5 star.
