Derrell Scott delays his announcement after visiting Tennessee. Scott had planned to announce his college decision on his birthday, 10/25/2013, with most pundits assuming that USC was the likely destination.
Per recent comments, Tennessee is "at or near the top" of his list.
Scott is the number 125 overall player per 247, and boasts offers from; USC, Tennessee, Ohio State, Florida State, Clemson, Oregon, and a host of lesser programs.

Did Kiffin or Dooley recruit anywhere near as good as Butch?

Official finalists are NC State, USC, Tennessee, and Ohio State.

Been a SC lean for two years. He has connections such as Pharoh Cooper who has been in the offense lately. I think it's just too much to overcome for any team, but you never know.

The short answer is...not even close.
Kiffin had a great class on paper, but due to player attrition it turned out to be a disastor.
Derek Dooley was the worst recruiter in Tennessee history, and probably couldn't have done worse if he'd tried. The man went to ZERO highschool football games during his tenure. Jalen Hurd and Todd Kelly were quoted as saying that they were not even considering UT prior to Jones.

To be honest, I'd be shocked if he went anywhere but USC. BUT delaying his decision certainly makes it seem as if the door is still open.

no one knows on Kiffin b/c he left before he could recruit a full class... but IMO he would've recruit on the same level as Jones is doing.
bottom line is UT is an easy sell right now... tons of early PT to offer... solid in-state class (compared to what TN normally produces)... fantastic facilities and large fanbase.
That's not to say what Jones has done isn't impressive... but there are many good recruiting HCs who could do what he's doing right now... time will tell it it's sustainable.

Kiffin is the best or second best recruiter in the country. He pulled off an incredible class at UT and repeated amazing classes at USCw. The personal problems of his players at UT after he left don't matter.

I would much rather land this kid than Judd. Hurd/Scott would be a beastly tailback combo.

Kiffin was great but he mainly focused on recruiting nationally, I guess for bragging rights or whatever, and never really cared to recruit the state.
Butch recruits nationally too, but his #1 priority from day 1 has been locking down the state, specifically Nashville/mid state area.
Dooley doesn't belong in the conversation with either. He sucked arse at anything and everything he did.

We NEED RBs, would be a huge get

Scott is the real deal.
2 weeks ago he had 21 rushes for 174 yds and 4 TD's.
Week before that he had 12 carries for 143 yards and 3 TD's in the 1st Quarter!!! Then they pulled him.
Week before that he had 176 yards on 10 carries and 2 TD's.
Havelock is producing a lot of D1 talent. Vickers tried to come to USC, but couldn't get in, so he went to UT. Pharoh Cooper who was Havelock's State Championship QB came to USC last year. This year they have Scott, next year they have Bowman and then a monster LB Joyner in '16.
Scott is coming to USC. He's the only RB we're going after this class.

And next years class is projected to be better and deeper than this year, which is good news for UT.

Tennessee fans, I have to ask you about ugo amadi. He seems like a stud. He is visiting us this weekend and already holds an offer. Do y'all have any insight in him?

“For my first visit here, it was very exciting — a real good game,”
“The fans loved it, even though they lost. Fans still cared about UT. They haven’t won a championship since 1998, and they’re still here — dedicated, diehard fans — and that’s what I like about UT.”
“I was very surprised by the way the fans acted, especially on third downs,” he said. “I was surprised by the atmosphere. I knew it was going to be a lot of people, but I didn’t know how loud it would be. I just didn’t know the atmosphere was going to be like that. There was a lot of orange out there. They said there’s a lot of people there every game, especially when they win. It gets really kind of crazy out there. It was better than what I expected. It was better than what I’d seen on TV.”
“I give my thanks to coach Butch (Jones). He called some good plays on fourth down — real good plays[.] The program is coming up. It’s getting better game by game. They did a good job out there. The penalties is what stopped them from winning (the Georgia) ballgame.”
“They made plays out there, and they were very intense the whole game,” Amadi said. “The defense never let up — not even one down. And the fans were crazy. It kept them motivated on the field and kept the energy out there, and I guess that’s what all UT is about.
that's the latest blurb from our 247 site.

Yea saw where he visited for the Georgia game. I think he is vastly overrated. He is having a good year this year.

Wommack at Rivals said he had the most interest in UT, no clue how much credibility that holds now though since that was a couple of months ago.

I would have to agree with him at this point. He likes our coaching staff so we shall see.
