Fortunately for us, I think Kirby has seen enough of Saban’s journey through the NFL up close to know that their comparable strengths in recruiting at the college level aren’t necessarily applicable st the pro level. He could very well decide to test those waters eventually but I think we have Kirby in Athens for at least a decade

Those get less and less every day Straws will be on an island soon. Mullen has never felt the pressure that he will feel this year. It will make him or break him. If we have a 6-7 win season and he finishes 7-8 in the conference recruiting, the pitchforks will be out. They will be out for Stricklin too. They better figure it out.

Straws is delusional. He thinks winning on the field will fix this. The problem is this staff doesn't show a history of that and if you cant sell it won't matter. Mac won 10 games and he sucked at recruiting. Something straws conveniently ignores

UFs problem has been facilities. What we had in the 2000s was decent but during Meyers tenure other programs upped the arms race. Have you ever seen pics of the athletic dorms? I had army barracks that looked better than what those dorms look like. No standalone complex. Happy we got the IPF but even that took too long to get.
I blame Foley for this, always will, nothing will change my mind.

You are right to do so, he holds a large portion of the blame. Only it’s for the garbage that he hired.

Would be surprised to see him leave any sooner than that... and quite frankly, he still may not leave. Right now, it's just not the lucrative jump that it used to be. You have Gruden who just signed the ridiculous 10M/year deal, and other than that, it's 5-8M/year for the next 9 head coaches.
Kirby is at 7M/year now on a 7 year deal... he makes 500k less than Belichek per year in year 3 at UGA and has not yet won a national championship... It's not unrealistic to see us bump his salary up again with multiple CFP appearances and/or bringing home a Natty in the next couple of years. Meanwhile, as you mentioned, he's essentially in control of his roster at UGA with his strengths in recruiting... at the NFL level, you have to play the hand you are dealt.
He seems to genuinely enjoy the recruiting aspect of collegiate coaching. Would take a pretty significant shift on that front to see him leaving for the NFL.

Not sure I'm buying this too heavily. Muschamp was still recruiting well at UF even in the wake of the heavy spending in the SEC. I definitely think that you're playing catch up now to some degree, but a much bigger problem is the recruiting ability of the current and previous staff. It was a huge downgrade from Muschamp even in terms of ability to bring in elite talent. Muschamp had his own issues in not having a clue on the offensive side of the ball (or an ability to identify an OC who could minimize that deficiency), but he seemed to have no problems recruiting even with the existing facilities.
It's still early yet for Mullen, but that would have to be the biggest concern at this point...

UGA just got new facilities and yet they pulled in two top classes without them and richt didn't have issues landing talent. FSU's and Miami's facilities are outdated and they have no problem with landing kids. Stop with the excuses. We just have a staff that sucks.
