Is this unprecedented? I mean on signing day I guess there are always surprises. But what is wrong with TAM that would cause so many defections? I dont't follow recruiting that closely so just looking for explanation from someone who does.

Lost a coaching staff that recruited them. Impressed with the class they will have after the season they had and the staff turnover.

Losing guys but Sumlin added some really good guys as well that Sherman was not in on. At the end of the day it will just about equal out.

What happened with Johnson and Texas?

He started having second thoughts and wanted to visit Oregon with his cousin and OU decommit Devante Harris(who eventually signed w/A&M).

Not sure about any discussions with the coaching staff but it seems that both decided to part ways...will be a damn good WR and should see some early PT wherever he goes.

Still will be a top 15 class and top 5 in the SEC.

Maybe top 15, but you'd need to be in the top 10 to finish in the top 5 of the SEC. I doubt that happens.

eta: Never mind, just checked Rivals, and they have most of the SEC much lower ranked than I expected.

A&M had 2 defections... 2... we pushed Monroe to Tulane. Monroe told two of our players that Sumlin said he wouldn't see the field at DB for a couple years at least.

he'll play from day one at Tulane.

So how is losing two recruits a huge drop off, especially considering adding TJ (#1 WR in state) is a slight updgrade from Bralon Addison.

We added at a huge need... DT...

we basically lost him b/c we don't have a journalism department as he wants to major in broadcast journalism.

I never will understand why we killed that program.

A&M needs to bring back the Journalism school and acquire S. Texas College of Law.

That's probably the single worst decision that Gates made while president of A&M.

I may be mistaken, but I thought the program was killed under Murano?

IIRC, it happened in 2004. Gates was SECDEF when Murano was President.
