He could just mean 5 DE body types. Some would be standing up obviously. Could also be that he told Walker that he would play 5 DEs (as in rotate) and Walker misunderstood him

Pruitt likes lean and fast D-Linemen, so when he says 5 DE's, he is including the two OLB spots in that assessment. Walker would be trained to play up on the line with his hand in the dirt or as a stand-up linebacker. Quite frankly, unless you're already in the upper 200's weight wise in high school, you had better learn to play with your hand in the dirt and standing up if you hope to see PT in college and beyond. So I don't buy a kid saying he only wants to play with his hand in the dirt. It'll be different learning to play standing up, but it's necessary nowadays.

Walker pointed out in that he doesn't want to play OLB and expects to be a DE (with his hand in the dirt.) I think Crowe might be right and maybe Walker just misunderstood about the context.

All this aside, Walker is a guy who would probably be a better long-term fit as a stand-up rush linebacker. His frame isn't that of a traditional DE

He is going to Auburn as a 6'2", 210# DE

...and it took him 5 years to contribute, will Walker wait 5 years?

That's the part I can't see, 5 DE's, but someone with his frame playing with his hand in the dirt. Did you see that article today on 247? My head is spinning on how that would be setup, wouldn't the ones standing up just be OLB's?
Even in a 3-4, if you were going to rush 2 additional guys (with their hands in the dirt) and have 5 down linemen, 4 would be DE's, but where's the 5th one?
I am assuming you would have a line of all DEs. Otherwise I think it is something that Walker misunderstood a bit.
Regardless, I think his best case at being a DE is if he adds 30 pounds and grows an inch or two. Vic Beasley basically, which isn't really a good thing. He is really slight, so I don't see him getting much bigger than 240. I think he gets a wake up call and eventually does line up at LB where he belongs.

That was my point. It likely isn't happening. If he is that dead set on playing DE, he can waste a scholarship and spot on somebody else's roster.
