The Auburn side is quietly pretty optimistic right now. Regardless where he commits, it will be far from over. If he does commit to Auburn, we'll have to have a strong season to keep him.

If Wanya Morris commits to AU then it will be that much more difficult from UGA to pry Pappoe away from us on signing day (unless Auburn has a complete disaster of a season which is very possible) since he will then have two close friends at Auburn and as far as family seeing him play - Auburn is right on the Georgia border so it can't possibly be that far of a drive to see him. I agree though that I won't be fully confident until after he actually signs his LOI.

We are usually in Nickel and he seems like a very versatile LB that could man both ILB and OLB spots in different packages. We've signed a lot of good Linebackers recently, just not any that have started. We lose 3 LBs to graduation after this season so it opens up competition for him to come in and help right away even if he doesn't start. Looking at UGAs roster, I think PT would be just as easy for him to get there so it's a wash for PT.
I think he ends up at AU because of his relationship with T-Will and fit in our scheme with Kevin Steele, utlimately. I don't think we'll lose him on NSD or anything either.

the biggest reason I can think of is that he may want to play with some of his HS teammates and the only feasible place for that is AU. Scuttlebutt that they may have tried to convince AU to offer a scholly to one of their lesser players as well (everyone does it, we've done it, so not talking crap about it).
Ya that isn't the biggest reason

Pappoe has said repeatedly that the coach he's closest too is Auburn's linebacker coach. That relationship plus Pappoe's belief he's a good scheme fit & early PT is what has AU trending. We will see if that's enough to land him May 1st & hang onto him down the road but Jakai Clark will not be the deciding reason
Clark helps us more with Wanya Morris

Lol what? You just signed like 5 4*/5* linebackers. Gaping hole?
Yet only 1 of them was an ILB which I thought OP was projected. I know he's listed as OLB but I thought I'd read elsewhere that we wanted him inside. Which if that is the case, then yes there is a massive hole. The only proven ILB we have is natrez patrick who will be gone by the time owen gets to college.

PFF had Patrick rated lower than Juwan Taylor and FR Monty Rice. Patrick has regressed so I don’t see how he’s considered proven.

PFF isn't exactly gospel

ok look how many snaps each played

Yet he's still the most proven ILB we have, by a frick ton.

You’re one of the smartest UGA guys on this board, but that’s a safe argument. Patrick struggled much of the season. I don’t need to look at snaps to know he underperformed vs. the 2nd string. Is he a bad player? No, but I would call 2017 a disappointment and not put him in the established category. I could be wrong, but I think he graded out as the worst defensive player in 4 or 5 of the games he started for UGA.
Personally, snaps are not an indicator as being a proven commodity.

Agreed, but what other metric gives us a better idea on performance?

I thought he played pretty well last season when he was available. UGA definitely missed him when he was out.

Grayson insiders all saying auburn.

Maybe I have a shortsided view, but I keep thinking about the two Auburn games. I realize it’s a team game, but I can’t get those lazy missed tackles out my brain @Auburn. I like Natrez, but something was missing last year. Kirby and the coaches know more than I’ll ever know so I’ll keep my faith there.

Not that I disagree, but who are the Grayson insiders? I know Coach Kenyatta Watson hates UGA, so I’m just curious.

UGA or AU?
I feel like UGA, but its been trending AU for the past couple weeks. As for reasons he may choose AU, they aren't that far behind UGA in talent, playing time, a chance to play with teammates, close relationship with position coach. There are a lot of reasons, and AU was a win away from getting into the playoffs last year.
