A year ago this would have been an Ole Miss commit.

Good get. Tennessee has gotten more and more high quality in state talent as Nashville has continued to grow in population.

Nah, because Akers would be committed. Honestly I thought the NCAA would have pushed him to us and Akers to LSU. I doubt we get either now.

Well we aren't going to get Akers either. Even though he did like the early playing time here.

Good get. Honest question last year it seemed tn didn't get the big dogs in state only signing 2 of the top 15 according to 247. This year there are already 6 of the top ten commited to other schools. Does tn not focus on in state talent? Is there a guy y'all could hire a tn version of Frank Wilson/jabar jaluke mold that would lock down the state? It seems there has been more talent in state the last few years than I've ever seen.

I think TN does fine recruiting in state but they are recruiting well outside of the state so I think they try to keep a balance. They don't really need to completely lock down the state.

Last year's instate class was pretty weak compared to the 2014 and 2015 classes and Butch got almost everyone he wanted those two cycles. Tennessee didn't really miss on anyone that was a big priority last year except maybe Joejuan Williams and it's debatable how much Tennessee truly wanted him.

Most Tennessee fans are pretty pissed at how in state recruiting is going so far for the 2017 class. 5* Trey Smith is basically a lock but missing on Tee Higgins and Amari Rodgers hurts bad. Jacoby Stevens was never really interested

Thanks for a answer I know years past the state wasn't a huge priority due to the lack of talent but like you said 14 15 classes were loaded 16 was just ok this year is really good

Jacoby Stevens was never gonna be a Vol. Born in Louisiana, grew up an LSU fan I think.

Amari Rodgers wasn't gonna happen because Tee Martin doesn't like Butch Jones.

Tee Higgins was a shock, but he's close friends with Amari , Clemson is doing better with WRs than just about anyone in the country, and the Oak Ridge coach has never really liked UT.

As for 2016, Tennessee HS football wasn't nearly as loaded as it is this year and next year.

2014 and 2015 I was really happy with how we finished instate besides maybe 1 or 2 guys. Last years instate class was disappointing for some of us with a few misses, but last year's in state talent level was pretty low.

We should finish the instate 2017 class with some momentum after getting Chandlers commitment and then Trey Smith's (5* OL) closer to December.

I don't think it's over just yet with 5* Tee Higgins yet either. It sounds like he's got a lot of family members that would like for him to stay closer to home as well. Definitely Clemsons to lose, but I wouldn't count us out completely yet.

The 2018 and 2019 classes should be loaded with talent by Tennessee standards (Obviously no where close to Louisiana talent) that we feel very good about. I think you'll see us do very well in state in the 2018 and 2019 classes. Even more so with a really strong this year on the field. Hope this explains a little bit more

The area is booming, the talent being pumped out of there right now rivals nearly any area in the south.

Last year the only misses imo were the LB that aTm got and Mitchell from Memphis who went to Oregon.

Neither seemed to be big priorities for whatever reason, but I think both will be big misses.

This year has been a disaster in state, no doubt.

It seems like you concentrate more on Ole Miss than you do State.

Besides Tee Higgins it really hasn't.

Our coaches really love Bumphus, Jackson and Fant. They are really quality players and I bet all could be 4* by signing day.

Get Trey Smith and this in state crop is really, really good.
