Very good article on Lawson's dominance

"You want to come out here and dominate," he says, not bothering to so much as glance to the side as he marches toward the Lakewood Stadium exit. "I'm not saying that to be cocky or anything, but you don't get recognized for doing good. You get recognized for dominating."
quote:
The performance was enough to raise a question. Could Lawson, a five-star prospect and the top-ranked weakside defensive end in the country, actually be underrated?
quote:
"If there's a better defensive lineman in the country, I want to see him," one coach says after Lawson effortlessly wins another rep. Other chatter centers on a comparison of Lawson and fellow end Robert Nkemdiche, the top player in the 2013 class who skipped the Challenge despite living just 45 minutes from Atlanta.
quote:
"If Nkemdiche really is the best defensive end in the country, he's not far behind. That's from what I've seen."
quote:
"If (Nkemdiche) doesn't want to be out here, I'm not going to dog him for it," Lawson says with a genuine disinterest. "He might have something else to do. I know he lives close, but I came for the O-linemen."
quote:
It's not just the fact that Lawson won all but one rep he took on Saturday. It's that things were rarely close. He kept coming back for more, too. When he wasn't competing, he was shouting, laughing or in a hurry to reclaim a place in line for a drill. Turns out, dominance is a blast.

You beat me to it. I bet my copy and paste creates a wall of text...
quote:
ATLANTA -- Carl Lawson is the last person to notice the tear in his jersey. And even now, somebody has to point it out. He looks down, pokes his finger through the five-inch rip over his breast and launches a single expletive from his mouth.
His camp-issued Under Armour uniform is ruined and has been for a few hours now, but he doesn't have time to worry about that. Right now, he needs to board a bus. He's walking in that direction as he does most things: with purpose.
"You want to come out here and dominate," he says, not bothering to so much as glance to the side as he marches toward the Lakewood Stadium exit. "I'm not saying that to be cocky or anything, but you don't get recognized for doing good. You get recognized for dominating."
The 253-pound Auburn commit has long since finished his destruction of one-on-one drills at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge. In a field loaded with elite athletes, he somehow looked to belong in a nonexistent higher class.
The performance was enough to raise a question. Could Lawson, a five-star prospect and the top-ranked weakside defensive end in the country, actually be underrated?
Coaches working the camp think they have that answer. They've been sharing it all day. You don't need to ask their opinions on the matter, either. You can overhear it when they talk amongst themselves.
"I've never seen either of them play on Fridays, but (Lawson) is underrated," says Brentson Buckner, who served as the defensive line coach for the camp. "If Nkemdiche really is the best defensive end in the country, he's not far behind. That's from what I've seen."
Lawson doesn't indulge anyone in that kind of talk, though. Instead, he shrugs the topic aside like another four-star lineman. He didn't sign up to battle Nkemdiche and didn't come to Georgia to overtake him in the rankings. He has his own motivation, and playing the tired, often-forced underdog card doesn't figure into it.
"If (Nkemdiche) doesn't want to be out here, I'm not going to dog him for it," Lawson says with a genuine disinterest. "He might have something else to do. I know he lives close, but I came for the O-linemen." And he came for them in the same manner as Jason Voorhees comes for teenagers.
Sure, there were no hockey masks or machetes on Saturday, but it was a bloodbath nonetheless.
"He so fast, and you have to watch out for his swim move," said Kent Perkins, the only offensive lineman to steal a rep from Lawson all afternoon. "He's about business out here."
It's not just the fact that Lawson won all but one rep he took on Saturday. It's that things were rarely close. He kept coming back for more, too. When he wasn't competing, he was shouting, laughing or in a hurry to reclaim a place in line for a drill. Turns out, dominance is a blast.
There are high-motor guys. Then, there are jet engines. Lawson is the latter. He rarely takes time to survey his surroundings. It's the reason he needs told about a gaping hole in his shirt has been showing off his pectoral for the last two hours.
"His energy and his first step are tremendous," Buckner said of Lawson. "He's violent with his moves. He gets his track, and you aren't going to knock him off of it."
Buckner's description is, of course, about football. But it would work to describe the power walk he uses to get from place to place.
When Lawson arrives at the bus, he decides he wants some Gatorade. He snatches two bottles from a cooler in the parking lot before a female attendant alerts him that he's permitted only one. Lawson doesn't hear a thing. He's settling into his seat now.
She never stood a chance.
