Keep in mind, some in the NFL are looking at Mingo as a guy that should be a Jack/Sam at the next level. His problem is not having much experience as a stand-up LB. Coaching staffs will only tell a recruit the 1/2 of the story that is going to help them when trying to get in RN's head and block his interrest in Alabama.

Mingo wont go higher than Upshaw did. Unless he gains a lot of weight.

No way to tell at this point. His game is speed. If he puts on weight too fast he loses the burst. If he stands up and backs off the LoS, every step back he takes cuts down on the impact of his burst. Not having much live experience as a LB will slow his read and react time. Kind of a catch 22 that I highly doubt LSU will be talking to RN about.

Pitching Dareus might be the better option based on his interview, but telling him if he likes Jack and he succeeds early at it could help

Long term I do think those are the best spots for both but I would like to see Allen develop skills at SAM as well. I think SAM would be great for him at the NFL level if they do not load 30 lbs of beef on his frame.

If RN goes to LSU I suspect he will end up at DT by his 2nd year.

think about Fanning at SDE with Allen on his hip at SAM and RN at WDE with Hubbard on his hip a JACK. Lake at NT with the other 34 LB's fighting for the two spots behind Lake. Not something I would want to face as an OC.

I would not pitch Darious to RN. Darious was best at 3 tech and RN should be best at 5 tech.

If the staff feels he can play at 300 pounds... I think he can play both DE spots, Jack, and probably Mike to be honest, but would fit best at WSDE

Is Nkemdiche just being pitched for Jack Dixie? Or DE? or what? In his latest interview it seems Jack has scared him with Upshaw dropping to the 2nd round

Jack is the glamour position. I don't think pitching him DE will help us with RN even if he does have doubts about Jack because DE in a 3-4 is largely viewed as a workman role.

If we're going to land RN, I think our best bet is to sell him on Jack and convince him that he won't drop to the 2nd round like CU did. Regardless, LSU has the better pitch: "We get our DL drafted high in the draft and we're losing both our starting DEs next year meaning you can come and start right away". It's nothing we can't overcome though.

Did Jameis Winston get drafted last night?

That toolbag Thunderbird was adamant that he would go in the first round all last recruiting season. I'd love for him to be wrong.

John O’Korn, three-star quarterback from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., drew rave reviews from several at Alabama's camp this week. O’Korn hopes to receive good news later in the week this week from the Tide coaching staff.

quote:

"I went to Alabama’s camp yesterday," said John O'Korn. "I threw yesterday and today. The camp went really well. I got to work with coach Nussmeier and compete against some other top quarterbacks.

"I felt like I did really well. I am going to speak with coach Nuss later this week. We are going to talk about how I did compared to the other quarterbacks in attendance. Hopefully they are going to offer me."

O.J. Howard, an Alabama commitment who is rated the No. 2 tight end in the country, gave O’Korn high praise for his performance. The Sunshine State signal caller is a competitor and felt good about his time on campus.

"Just getting to compete against some of the best quarterbacks around the country and getting to work with coach Nuss was the best part of my visit,” O'Korn said. "I just like going out and competing. I felt like I was the best quarterback there. That’s through my eyes."

O’Korn enjoyed working with new Alabama offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier.

"He told me he loved working with me," O’Korn said. "He was really impressed with my raw talent. He really liked how I spun it. I am waiting to see how the other quarterbacks do they are evaluating this week. I am waiting to see if they decide to offer me."

The South Florida native was No. 2 on the depth chart last year for the high school powerhouse program. The 6-foot-3.5, 205-pound prospect has earned scholarship offers from North Carolina, UCF and South Florida. He hopes Alabama is next.

"It was my second time up there," O'Korn said of Tuscaloosa. "I liked it a lot. It’s a really nice campus. The facilities are amazing. They are making them better than they already are which is incredible. I like it a lot. They have some guys from my school who play there."

O’Korn does not have any other plans scheduled for the summer.

Kendell Beckwith, National 100 defensive end from East Feliciana High School in Clinton, La., participated in Alabama’s camp the past two days. Beckwith has the Tide in his top two with the home-state SEC school.

quote:

"The camp at Alabama went good," said Kendell Beckwith. "I worked out yesterday, and then the first practice today.

"They just had me working at outside linebacker. I think I did good. I was doing everything they asked of me. We did some pass rushing stuff. They couldn’t block me.

"I worked with coach Thompson. He gave me some pointers. He was coaching me up the whole time. I love working with him. He knows his stuff. All the coaches told me I did great."

The four-star prospect spent time with Alabama head coach Nick Saban.

"I talked to coach Saban before I left," Beckwith said. "He talked about how they are going to go about doing things in their program. He just talked about Alabama. He doesn’t talk about other schools. He just talks about Alabama. He said they would love to have me. He said he was really impressed with my athleticism. He can see me as a nickel linebacker or any linebacker position on their team."

Beckwith travels to Baton Rouge for camp on Tuesday and will spend two days with the LSU Tigers. He will have a tough decision down the road.

"I am getting more comfortable at Alabama," Beckwith said. "I have been there several times now. It’s going to be a very tough decision. Alabama is real cool. I really like it up there."

Antonio Riles, defensive end from Archer High School in Lawrenceville, Ga., was a star at Alabama’s camp on Monday. He quickly caught the attention of the Tide coaching staff.

quote:

"I was at Alabama’s camp today," said Antonio Riles. "The camp was real intense. I liked it a lot. They are real intense coaches. They want you to get better. They try to perfect your skills. I had a real good time hanging out in T-Town.

"I did everything. I worked at 5-technique, the 3, and I did one rep at the zero. They told me they don’t know yet where they will play me. I could turn into a big 3 or play the 5. They talked about playing tight end as well."

Riles was invited to coach Saban’s office following his camp performance.

"After we got finished with the second practice we went to coach Saban’s office," he said. "He was saying it’s a real good opportunity. We can get a good education and shot at the NFL. He said we’ll stay out of trouble at Alabama."

The 6-foot-4, 271-pound prospect enjoyed working out with the Tide's defensive line coach.

"Coach [Chris] Rumph is a real good guy," Riles said. "He is funny. He doesn’t cut you any slack. He is going to work you real hard. He is intense. He wants you to get better."

Alabama has quickly become a contender for one of the South’s top defenders.

"This was my second visit over there," Riles said. "I went on a visit there in January. I like everything about Alabama. That’s all I can say. I just like everything about them."

Orlando Brown, offensive tackle from Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, Ga., was the biggest prospect at the University of Alabama's camp this week. The monster 2014 recruit camped in Tuscaloosa Monday morning. Brown talked about his first-ever visit to the Capstone.

quote:

"The camp went pretty well,” said Orlando Brown. "I feel like I did well in the one-on-ones. I did well in the agility work. I did a good job and impressed the coaches.

“Coach Stoutland is a great coach. He is going to stay on your until you get it right. Their staff is great. You can tell they are going to win a lot of championships in the future."

Brown arrived in Tuscaloosa Sunday evening before camping Monday morning.

“"I came up there yesterday," he said. "I visited the school, mainly the athletic center. I camped this morning. I had never visited Alabama before. The campus is great. There is a lot of history behind the school. I know Tuscaloosa is strictly football. Most of the fans, college students are all about football."

The 6-foot-9, 360-pound prospect has 27 scholarship offers including one from the Tide.

"I like their coaching staff,” Brown said of Alabama. "I like the academics. I have some friends who go there now. I know some people who went there in the past. I like academics, players and staff. I know they are going to get you to the next level.

"I can’t say I have any favorites right now. Alabama is a really good school. I know they have a lot to offer."

Brown travels to Florida this Saturday for an unofficial visit. He also plans to visit Florida State, Oregon, USC, Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Michigan this summer.

Brown hopes to make a decision before his senior season with several trips in the next year.

"The earliest I could make a decision is next summer," he said. "I want to visit as many colleges as I can before I make my decision. I am looking for good academics, good coaching staff and chance to play my freshman year.”

Rod Crayton, three-star defensive tackle from Dadeville High School in Ala., has more than 20 scholarship offers from across the country. Schools in the SEC are hoping he stays closer to home.

quote:

"I haven’t been anywhere yet this summer," said Rod Crayton. "I know we are going to some camps. We haven’t decided where all we are going yet though."

"I’d say Tennessee, Mississippi State, LSU, Arkansas and Ole Miss are coming after me the hardest right now. A lot of schools are recruiting me. I don’t have any favorites right now."

Several coaches in the SEC are staying in very close contact.

“I talk to coach Ansley a lot from Tennessee," Crayton said. "I talk to coach Peoples from Arkansas. I talk to coach Wilson and coach Collins at lot from Mississippi State. I talk to coach Haley from LSU a lot. Those are the main coaches I keep in contact with."

The 6-foot-1.5, 310-pound lineman will not rush his college decision.

"I have around 22-23 offers right now," Crayton said. "I am not really hearing from anyone who hasn’t offered. It’s pretty much all the schools who have offered me.

"I will probably make my decision at the end of the season. I am just trying to find somewhere I can spend the next four years. I want to go somewhere with a good environment. I want to feel comfortable."

Crayton is known for his incredible strength. He continued to improve it this spring and other aspects of his game.

"I did 325-pounds 20 times on the bench," he said. "Spring practice went good. I worked on hand movement and staying low. I am working on getting a strong push off the ball. I feel like I have improved a lot."

I don't know where the optimism was coming from this past weekend regarding Crayton getting an offer, but as you can see he didn't even mention Alabama in this article.

Yep, Crayton didn't camp and it doesn't sound like we're recruiting him at all so it doesn't sound like we're going to offer. It is what it is.
