Why did Miss State pull the plug on him so fast? He was 4-6 with a chance to go 6-6 and go to a bowl. Not too bad for a first time head coach at a historically average program. It doesn't seem like he really underachieved. Not sure what State expected out of his first year.

Texas a&m beat them by 40 and fired their coach afterwards. That didn't help. He got lucky as hell and won the arkansas game. They weren't very competitive in their losses. They were aware he wasn't a head coach prior and probably reacted quicker than they would have with a guy with previous head coach experience.

The reason he was hired was to keep continuity. He didn't hold that up when he got rid of the offense that worked. Gutting the Leach offense is the biggest disrespect you could do to the legacy of Leach

He was hired as a placeholder and performed admirably in that aspect

18 returning starters from a 9 win team should not look as bad as they looked.

He had a 9 win group of seasoned seniors that were trained up by a seasoned coach and he decided to throw it all out. I appreciate that he deadlifts but I shudder to think what he would do next year without that golden setup.
