2011 OM surprisingly only gave up 385 points, while 2010 OM gave up 422.
Another surprise, 2012 Auburn gave up 340, and 2011 Auburn gave up 376.
2012 Tennessee takes the cake, giving up 428.
I still think 2011 OM is the worst though, because while UT gave up the most, their offense still put up 434 points, while 2011 OM only put up 193, so essentially teams took their foot off the gas against us and had mercy.

No, Arkansas getting Wilson knocked out had a lot to do with the outcome of that game. That game wasn't all on the Arkansas defense. UT's defense, on the other hand was historically bad in 2012.
So because Wilson got knocked out they lost a 21 point lead? It was largely on the defense, no other real way to call it based on what happened.

I have those years repressed

UT in 2012 finished 110 in total D, AU finished 81.
UT by far was worse giving up over 50 yards more a game.

Yeah I remember hearing what you said about the D giving up record points with 2 games left, but I just looked it up and that wasn't the case. Maybe it was record number of yards?

However...I don't think anything matches the suck that was the 2012 Tennessee Volunteers defense
Now,is this one of these things where "SEC History" = 'Since Saban came to the SEC' ? If not the 2012 Vols looked like the '85 Bears compared to Vanderbilt in 1978 or 1979

It was something like that. I know it was statistically the worst defense we've ever had

Those defenses still gave up fewer points (418 both years) than Tennessee's defense did in 2012 (428).

Which may be relevant until you determine that the vols this year played one more game. Subtracting out their average, 35 points, they were historically better.

But that defense was bad before he got there
How so? They were 27th in the nation in total D the year before. And like I said, the only person of note that they lost was Malik Jackson.

ummm, you do watch football, right? An ineffective offense has a very profound effect on how a defense can play. When Wilson goes 11 for 20 196 yds and 2 TD's; then a freshman back up comes in and goes 6 for 20 85 yds 1 TD and 1 INT, that is never going to help ANY defense. Especially one that was not very good to begin with. ULM was put in great situations time after time by the offense that was stagnant under a back up QB and the defense did not have enough playmakers to stop ULM. That makes them a bad defense, yes; but not anywhere in the same area code as UT last year.

Precisely. It was on the defense.

That still doesn't make them the '85 Bears compared to the Vandy defenses of 1978 and 1979. Even if you subtract that final game from Tennessee's schedule they still gave up 411 points on the year, just 7 points shy of Vandy's herp derping defenses of '78 and '79.
And considering Tennessee's defense was WAY more talented than those Vandy defense, Tennessee takes the cake.

Well, for starters, Tennessee also played one more game. Also, Tennessee at least competed in many of their games and won some shootouts like Troy. Vanderbilt's defense in 1978 and 1979 was abysmall. Ole Miss mercy-kneed them in '79. Bear had 4 QB's score tds vs them in 1979.

I think there's a expected level of performance factor to consider as well. With all respect to what James Franklin's accomplished, nobody's shocked when Vandy is giving up over 35 a game.

You subtract out the average, chief. It is how central tendency works.

Tennessee still gave up 411 points if you subtract that final game, just 7 points shy of what Vandy gave up in '78 and '79. Also...as stated above, it's the performance factor. You expect a team like Vanderbilt to be that bad. You don't expect a defense like Tennessee to suck that horribly. Also...consider that Tennessee returned most of its starters from a defense that finished 27th overall the year before. They were supposed to be a dangerous team this year because everyone expected the defense to compliment their offense.

In their first eleven games, Tennessee allowed 37.6 PPG scored on their defense. Vandy in '78 and '79 allowed teams to score 38 PPG on their defense in eleven games. The difference is not much. The extra game actually helped bring down Tennessee's PPG average.

OM 2010-11
Auburn 2012
Tennessee 2012
Those are 3 pretty solidly bad defenses
