Link to proof?

That is another reason Sabana bailed. Emmert retired and he lost the air cover for his arse.
If he was paying players, that’s legal now. Why would Emmert retiring matter at this point?

The "great" coach lost his advantage.
Anyone who says Saban was not paying players payers is an idiot or a liar.
I want to know how all those broke kids could suddenly afford new cars? Sometimes two new cars, and child support.
How? Are cars cheap in Tuscaloosa? Do the dealers give them away to the unemployed? How does that work?
Tell us. This should be good.

EXACTLY!
Bammer was already under investigation (thanks to Spurrier and Nutt), before Fulmer ever got involvd.

Rich Johanningmeier was the guy who slept with Ole Miss booster wives so Miss State would get hammered.

Billy Brewer?
Ole Miss, 1986
The violations: Assistant coaches George Smith and Mickey Merritt were charged with giving money — in one case $800 — and transportation through boosters to several players, including wide receiver J.R. Ambrose, offensive tackle Jay Schimmel and fullback Johnny Boatman during their recruitment. A booster also provided one of the players with complimentary airfare to return home from prep school. Dozens of recruits were allowed to attend Ole Miss' summer camp at no cost.
Ole Miss, 1994
The violations: For the second time in eight years, the NCAA hammer fell on the Rebels. This time, an Ole Miss booster was accused of offering a Ford Mustang sports car to a recruit. Several recruits, including future LSU wide receiver Chris Hill, were photographed at a Memphis strip club during their official visits to Ole Miss (NCAA rules prohibit official visit entertainment that occurs outside a 30-mile radius from campus). Other players were given clothing and impermissible transportation, including car rides and airline tickets.

Very minor stuff. $800 , plane ticket and going to a titty bar. No big deal.

Spurrier owned him in the 90's.

What ever you say!
1956: The violations: Through Auburn assistant coach Hal Herring, a booster was found to have given $500 each to Harry and Robert Beaube, twin brothers from Emma Sansom High School in Gadsden, in order to induce them to play for the Tigers.
1957: The violations: An Auburn booster was found to have offered Guntersville High School quarterback Don Fuell a number of luxury items, including a motorboat and an air-conditioned apartment (Fuell was then married with a young son), in order to induce him to sign with the Tigers.
“If you ever want to know the truth is real detail, go talk to Coach Vince Dooley.” Quote by Auburn Plainsman Editor
1. I don't recall that Auburn was ever accused of giving Fuell money. We were accused of putting him a nice apartment with a new car and a new baot. This came about as the result of two bama assistant coaches coming to his apartment posing as encyclopedia salesmen. bama was incensed that Fuell came to Auburn rather than with them. They desperately needed a QB as their program was in the toilet under Ears Whitworth.
2. The bottomline in all this is real simple. Fuell came from what appeared to be a very average Guntersville family who could in no way afford what the kid had at Auburn. BUT, Daddy Fuell was a bootlegger making lots of money selling illegal booze. In the end, Auburn had two choices, take it in the shorts or see the kid's Dad put in jail. Auburn did the "honorable" thing and kept quiet. All this was fairly common knowlege at the time but certainly not something we could offficially use in court or with the NCAA. In retrospect, the real mistake Auburn made was allowing the kid to have these kind of toys in the first place.
Some University Of Alabama coaches should be under heavy consideration for the top honor in this catagory starting in 1957 with Whitworth until present day.
Let’s not forget Petrino.
