I hope you're not just finding this out, but Nick Marshall ain't no Johnny fricking Football. JFF was the trick that teams tried to prepare for, not the scheme.

I hope you are not just finding out that AU has a power running game that A&M lacked last year. They should also have more than one WR as a weapon. But if it helps you sleep at night, keep pretending.

My entire contention is that if/when the read is taken away from NM, then he becomes your regular old every-day QB by the fact that he's either got to keep it and run, or throw it...and if Auburn is banking on him being affective throwing the ball after his run option is gone, well....it's gonna be a long season.

So you think teams will be able to cover the read option AND stay in coverage effectively? I just don't see any team being able to contain all of the possibilities on a reliable basis. Last year teams struggled to even slow down the read option. If you add the PA threat consistently, defenses will either have to o man to man, winning at almost every position, or the most disciplined zones ever. It's a lot to ask 75 times a game.

No they didn't...

Bama still trying to change the rules where they won't have to figure it out?

This thread. Perfect.

Nick Marshall is gonna get KILLED. He won't make it through the first half of the season.
Everybody figured Auburn out now. This gimmick offense is going to get shut down quickly in 2014.

Let's see how Gus does without his heisman runner up, Tre Mason.

Gus hasn't done ANYTHING as a head coach. One SEC championship, in a down year.

Nick Marshall just throws it up there. He is warm rhinoceros shite without Sammie Coates.

All I know is that Gus is 0-1 v. LSU. He got shut down. Gus is done, it's over (constant cough)

Bama had an emotional win over Chattanooga the week before the Iron Bowl. Auburn caught Bama tired and worn down.
Cosigned.

Excellent thread, OP.

The whole offense is based on about 8 plays. Nobody really stopped it much last year at all. This year I expect the passing game to take a bigger role with Williams and Coates both.

The most telling stat is that Auburn would have been the 21st rank team in rushing even without Masons yardage.

I've said it constantly since the IB...you need a really good 2-gap NG to shut it down. If Alabama had possessed a Terrence Cody last year, none of all this crap that's in the news would have ever come up. Timmy Jernigan and his coaches figured it out at halftime of the BCSNCG and look at what happened. I'm telling you, if you can take that 1st read away from the QB, that entire offense becomes very predictable.

242 yards in the 1st half
220 yards in the 2nd half

Teams will adjust to that style of play, but the biggest difference will be in the officiating. The Officials won't adjust their pace to fit the HUNH style this year, and there will be an extra official.
