They may have to.
Alternately, his sitting out may have been due to an internal investigation. If they’ve just recently concluded an internal investigation into his eligibility, they probably won’t immediately reopen that.

Honestly it doesn’t matter I rather win and tell everyone to stick it where the sun dont shine. Know why? Like I said it doesn’t matter because all will be vacated anyway and Will Wade will get fired if there is evidence. Doesn’t matter if Wade and Smart sit the rest of the season and we win it all.

And Smart probably has to go pro after this year. He will almost certainly be ineligible next year.
So you can lengthen the rebuild by at least a year and maybe two for a Sweet 16 appearance. Alleva’s choice.

None of us know for sure.
However, the one difference would be that LSU AD will likely claim that they had no idea of potential recruiting violations with Smart until the past couple of days.
Sitting him now would allow them to claim that they acted as soon as they found out.
