In hindsight, with the way Florida's season is going this seems ironic.

Y'all seem to forget that we haven't "fired" a coach in 50+ years. We're really good at the whole "forced to resign" business.

Just curious, is Jimbo a Sexton client? If so, all this alleged willingness to come to the Plains by Jimbo behind the scenes is classic Sexton. Invent an desire to move elsewhere to extort more dough from the present employer.

That is not the problem. The problem is attracting a top echelon coach who knows he will be going up against Saban for Alabama recruits and play Saban, Miles, etc every year. Petrino wight take the job out of desperartion on his part, but outside of that, that job is kryptonite.

You must add the hush payments to Cam, Cecil, the HBO 4, and many others. Trooper may have upped his "dividend" too. Since all this is off the record it's hard to know what the total buyout is running these days.

i wonder if Chiz will threaten to blow the whistle on the Trooper Taylor brown bag recruiting if they bring him in to talk firing.

Those Pumpkin Rolls with Cream Cheese in the middle are always great this time of year. I hope they have some of them. I'd buy one.

If I was an Auburn fan, I would be blowing the Apple CEO the hell up, begging for the cash.

Muschamp wasn't going to come here as long as Jacobs was around after what happened in 2007. Jimbo's name was popular in 08 as well. Pretty much anytime there's an HC opening at Auburn now, Jimbo's name will be mentioned.

It will not reflect well on that program.

You mean the program that paid for a national championship? I think they can live with a little dirty laundry if it equates to wins.

ESPN said it would cost around 9 million dollars to buy him out and suggested they have a bake sale to raise funds.

That would have to be one hell of a bake sale. I guess that random guy at the Airport, when Chizik landed in Auburn, was right about him. Cut bait Auburn, Get Kirby Smart.

The $9M figure is for Chiz ($7.5M) and staff. His buyout is paid over remainder of contract, which means he will get that over like 4 years. It's about $200k/month. Also, that number is reduced by whatever he makes at next job, speaking engagements, tv appearances, etc. AU will likely only end up paying $150/month and a total of somewhere around $5M.

Chiz's contract requires that he make reasonable attempts to find employment. If he doesn't, they could sue and pay nothing so he will get a job.

As for the assistants, those are typically paid in one or two lump sums. Point being, money will not prevent AU from firing Chiz.

You'd be surprised... From everything everybody is hearing regarding insiders, it is between Petrino and Fisher. Some are saying Petrino, some Fisher. But that's pretty much the consensus, and it doesn't sound like we will miss on both.

Sorry Skooter but the "plains" aint all that...There is a damn good reason your last hire was a 5-19 coach and not everyone "feels the need to say the creed". "If" you hire BP then where are all of the aubruns fans that said they were not a "win at all cost" program like Alabama when they hired Saban?

Isn't a bigger issue the fact that firing Chiz will make it harder to get another top coach to take the job?

I mean, this guy won a NC two years ago. That is worse than when Neb fired Solich after he won nine games.

Neb's move almost killed the program- no one worth a damn wanted to coach for a place with such high standards with such an uphill climb.

I think Aub has to sit through another year of sucking just to make the job attractive to top coaches. If the message is winning a NC while Saban shares the state isn't good enough, the only people who will go there are John L and Dooley types who know they are over their head and just want the paycheck.

I'm sure we can show any inquiring coach game film of our team and have them completely understand.

One thing I did consider is that Chiz does recruit well so a coach coming in will have talent to compete immediately.

But that coach will still have to deal with Saban.

I guess my big issue is that by firing Chiz Aub will officially be saying they expect more from their coach than Ark. But I expect Ark to get a better coach if both are in the market at the same time.
