Either way, Auburn played K State at home with the idea we'd never make the return or the return would be a high profile game in an NFL stadium that would be a semi-interesting game and decent trip for fans. Took forever to pull it together for the return trip, and we end up on Thursday night in Manhattan.

It's not a bad situation, it just wasn't what we hoped for in 2005 or whenever this series was set up. I think at this point Auburn just wanted to get the game played to fulfill our arrangement with Kansas State.

You hit the nail on the head.

FWIW, I enjoyed the K State fans here in 2007.
Same here. Promised them to make the return trip whenever we play.. it was gonna happen til they made it Thursday night.

Oregon I get. Certainly more of a recruiting area than Kansas.

How many kids did Tennessee sign out of Oregon? Was it worth the trip?

There are several JUCOs in Kansas that churn out decent players - they're where Snyder gets many of his kids - so a trip to Kansas isn't a complete recruiting waste. I mean, Nick Marshall went to Garden City which is in EMAW country.

what Alabama tries to do in scheduling "name" schools that aren't playing particularly well

Alabama has scheduled Clemson twice. They have been playing well. Va tech was top 10 one year and shortly removed from a sugar bowl the other. Michigan was top 10(15?) and coming off a sugar bowl appearance. WVU had success and just been to a orange bowl when we scheduled them. Penn state was playing well when we put them on a home and home. It's not our fault the teams we are scheduled happen to suck the year we play them. We didn't schedule the game that preseason.

No shite. The difference is they want Bama every year. It's just smart. They like money.

What did you do with the cinder blocks and open space in front of the trailer?

I didn't actually get into the game. Just hung out in the parking lot with some KFC and my wife's sister. I think that's who it was.

I imagine you could have gotten more for the car had there been an engine in it...
