Didn't Bama play at Duke a few years ago?

Usually you travel to play someone that helps recruting, a la Clemson and not to a recruiting backwater like Kansas.

AU has San Jose St before the KSU Game, so I think Gus thinks he has plenty of time to prepare.

we originally wanted Oregon State for 07 but the beavers wanted a return trip to their place in 08 so we settled for Kansas State

I don't understand that either. Don't they usually try to play 9 home games?

I'm not worried about preparation. My point was rejecting the Thirsday night game so KState would reconsider the Arrowhead deal. If we reject Thursday night ESPN no longer puts that game on prime time.

Oregon I get. Certainly more of a recruiting area than Kansas.

Common sense? I said "usually". If you are going to play another BCS school it is more advantageous to go somewhere that helps recruiting. LSU going to Arizona. Alabama going to Pennsylvania.

Alabama gets chosen for marquee kick off classic type events. Auburn has never been thought about for that type stuff.

Oh no whatever will Auburn do not getting those kind of games. It's really going to hurt AU's recruiting.

Getting a Thursday night and nationally televised game isn't getting exposure?

Games like K State aren't bad ideas, and are generally in the vein of what Alabama tries to do in scheduling "name" schools that aren't playing particularly well. Granted, having enough foresight to predict when a school with some cache will be playing mediocre ball is tough, so part of it is just luck.

Either way, Auburn played K State at home with the idea we'd never make the return or the return would be a high profile game in an NFL stadium that would be a semi-interesting game and decent trip for fans. Took forever to pull it together for the return trip, and we end up on Thursday night in Manhattan.

It's not a bad situation, it just wasn't what we hoped for in 2005 or whenever this series was set up. I think at this point Auburn just wanted to get the game played to fulfill our arrangement with Kansas State.

FWIW, I enjoyed the K State fans here in 2007.
