The only reason Bama fans have grew to that ratio is because when Bama fans have kids they beat the Tide Pride into them for 18 years. Eventually the kids give up and pull for Bama so they don't get yelled at all the time. Or they give them names like Crimson Tyde and Bear Bryant and they don't have much choice.

A leader of the Family being rational...

You started a thread to say bama has a lot of fans.

Mustang, are you serious? I mean, do you formulate a thought, or do the words rush out like snot from a sneeze? you know more fans from the team you pull for? that could not be because you prefer hanging out with people who pull for the same as you

This might be the dumbest thing I've ever read on here. Do you even think before you post? I don't live anywhere near Alabama. I "prefer hanging out" with Auburn fans? Unbelievable. My friends are my friends, and it has nothing to do with who their favorite teams are. My god, do you really think you are that important? I have never seen such an insecure bunch of fans as Updykes. I have ONE good friend who is an Alabama fan. I like hanging out with him the same as my friends who like Auburn. Some are Oregon fans, some are Texas fans. We had an informal vote one night and the most hated college team in the US was Alabama. People hate Saban and they hate Alabama for the same reason they hate the Yankees and Cowboys. Those were the most hated baseball and NFL teams. Don't you dare tell me what is true here in the Midwest buddy. I live here and you don't. The number one out of state team here is Oregon. Kids love their uniforms and their colors.
Yes, this is a small sample, but it's not inconceivable to think there are more AU fans than Updyke fans outside the state of Alabama.
There is a huge sporting goods store in a neighboring city. A friend of mine works there. He said Auburn gear outsells Updyke gear 2-1. Oregon gear outsells Auburn gear 2-1. Those are the facts. Deal with it.

As a resident of Colorado, I can vouch for the fact that you are more likely to come across AU gear than UA gear in the sporting goods stores out here.

Oh I absolutely think it's the latter. Don't get me wrong here - I am in no way claiming that we just have super awesome alumni that are so much better fans than Alabama alumni. Not even close. I believe the historical success of bama has helped Auburn to become a little more "insular" as you call us. Naturally, a more isolated fanbase in a CFB loving state will become a little more closer knit than the larger, more successful school. I just had strong disagreement with the idea that it was just some crap that was "sold" by the university.

The historical success enjoyed by bama and it's status as the "state school" will, as previously mentioned, always attract more "loosely affiliated" fans. While I certainly wouldn't mind have a few more titles to claim I thoroughly enjoy our little fanbase.

Are you trying to convince us that Auburn is not one big alumni fambly?

This is obviously because all the Bama gear sells out and the Auburn gear just sits on the shelf.

AU sells the Family stuff. Don't kid yourself. They market with that in the same sense that UA markets with its snake oil. It is all the same shite.

The family myth hasn't been marketed and sold by the University?

Keep dreaming. They stock what they can sell. Your precious UAT is not well liked in a lot of areas of the country.

Not denying that they push the "Family, All in" thing. The signs and whatever will come and go. But that whole motto (perhaps not in those exact words) was around long before 2010. I don't know that there's any other way for me to explain it.

Just like bama fans run around trying to sell the idea that they have 14 NCs and that having more fans means anything to anyone but themselves.

UA stuff goes to a bazaar in Waziristan, while AU stuff is flung at wholesome places like Colorado..

We get it.

Exactly, Rabern. Thank you for making my point. UA fans just aren't afraid to call it what it is..marketing.

Yes, because actual sales numbers from an assistant manager is anecdotal. Do you Updyes EVER admit when you are wrong? I never said or implied anything in regards to other parts of the country. I can however, tell you that as a general rule, people here hate Alabama. They are simply not as popular of a team as Auburn in football. I think the kids also love wearing orange and blue as opposed to butt ugly maroon. I'd say Oregon is #1 here, Florida #2, and Auburn #3. North Carolina is definitely #1 in basketball with Kansas #2.
