Why do the SEC and B1G give concessions to the other conferences?

I really don’t understand why the ACC and Big 12 are even considered power conferences. The ACC (save for Miami last year) has been horrible and no one attends football games in that conference unless they’re facing a SEC rival.

The Big 12 is laughable without Texas and Oklahoma. The new Pac 12 will be about the same level as the Big 12 this year.

And don’t get me started on handing a playoff spot to the “Group of 5” —- which should also include the Big 12, at minimum.

I know it’s all about money and having more schools = more money. But does it though? If it’s just the SEC and B1G with a few cherry picked teams from the ACC to join either conference, we’d make just as much, if not more, with less schools to have to dilute the revenue sharing.

CFB was so much better for EVERYONE when conferences were smaller and actually regional, which led to a ton more parity to boot

If you cut D1 back to 60 teams probably fewer, you’d end up with more regional/balanced schedules. I see this happening before it’s all said and done. 90 percent of college football viewership comes from 66 teams in D1, and even some of those teams are probably carried by conference mates. Like what does wake forest viewership or Rutgers viewership look like without fsu Clem Miami Mich osu and Penn state viewers.
