Success from Freeze will likely just make his eventual jump to another school more likely.
I'd disagree on the basis that he has ties to the state, worked at Ole miss in the past, and has potential for tremendous success.

Coaches with much stronger ties to a university have left for a lot less.

Rich Rod. Not saying the jump worked out for him but he was riding high at his alma mater and turned his back on them for UM.

Gladly.

Freeze's hometown is 40 miles from Oxford and he grew up coming to games. All of his family lives in close proximity to Oxford and every chance he has gotten to coach at OM, he has jumped at it.

Well what about when a bigger program comes calling after a few years offering big big money?

First, and I know money is always a factor, but with Freeze he really really seems like he genuinely wants to be here and do something special. It just doesnt seem like it's all about money with him. Could I be wrong? Yea. But taking what he has said as objectively as I possibly can, I just feel like this is where he wants to be.

Also, the biggest plus is our new AD who not alot of people know a ton about. Ross Bjork has done an unbelievable job since being hired last spring. Simply unbelievable. Look down your nose at it like most LSU fans if you want but facts are facts. Bjork has come in and really turned around our whole athletic dept. For the first time in a long time, our ath dept is all pullin in the same direction and the GOB network has dwindled significantly. When the reg season ended, Bjork approached Sexton about restructuring Freeze's contract, not vice-versa. Which leads me to another point, Freeze and Bjork really seem to get along which has definitely not been the case before with our AD and coaches. Mainly because our previous AD was an arrogant penny-pinching GOB prick.

Those pieces of the puzzle are why I feel like Freeze is here for the long haul. Sorry for the length.

I think you're being a little naive. I'm not saying he doesn't love OM, doesn't want to accomplish great things there, doesn't want to stay there as long as he can. But it's simply not a top tier job for a number of reasons. I think "stealing" a coach in the media age is more difficult than ever, but my only point is that there are better jobs out there and if he finds success, it wouldn't surprise me to see him leave regardless of any ties to the school.

That is true. Coaching is a crazy profession so in the end we have to see how well Freeze can maintain success and if he will try to build something in Oxford. However, in the SEC west, nothing is guaranteed.

He's a new face that won a directional bowl game and recruited well. I think that speaks highly of him but it's by no means a recipe for continued success and longevity in the SEC. OM is not the easiest place to win in the conference; thus, winning there makes better jobs notice.

I don't think he would leave for anyone in the SEC. He has too many ties to OM to burn that bridge, too many family and friends. He has lived in North MS or Memphis or Ark his entire life practically. I doubt he has any interest in going to any other part of the country to coach. If he is winning on the level to keep our fans happy, the money will come to match any reasonable offer for him. Unless someone is offering 4-5 mil a year in the next few years, we will be able to match just about any other offer.

Well of course you do.

You're right, at the moment it isnt. My point is that Freeze wants to take it there and we will be able to pay him well enough that he wants to stay. Call me naive but as long as Freeze is here our boosters will do what is needed to keep him and now we dont have an AD who is in the way - he's now a positive.

He doesnt want to leave the south and again I think we will do what has to be done money-wise to keep him when he is approached by other SEC schools - and yes I realize that day is right around the corner.

Dude you're an LSU fan. Of course you think he's gonna leave OM

I'm just trying to enlighten you.

There are many other teams with a lot more money than you. I realize that is difficult for some people to understand, but it's absolutely the truth. And we're not just talking about his salary but salaries for the staff as a whole play roles in coaches decisions.

That is true. Freeze's stock as a coach will really depend on his future success at OM. It all just depends on how this recruiting class pans out. Can he win with top talent? Or pull a chizik?

You're acting like I wasn't already keenly aware of his "connection" to the school. I just think too much emphasis is placed on that.

I understand this. But with the TV deal, most SEC programs have the money to pay Saban's salary. You don't have to out pay any suitor that comes along. You just have to be willing to pay enough for him to stay and the school to go to their next pick. USC could pay Saban 10 mil a year if they wanted but they wont because there are other options for cheaper.

Did you miss the part about our AD and having new blood in the ath dept?

why is that an apt comparison when Alabama has more money than USC and OM doesn't.

If you're a good enough football coach the AD is inconsequential because the football coach calls the shots.
