I won't take a position here -- there are plenty of decent pro and con arguments for both sides -- but I want to point out that people who implicitly think these kids are getting a free ride for showing up and kicking arse on Saturday have never played ball at any level. Between practices, training, mandatory fitness programs, off-season practices, etc, these kids are essentially working full-time jobs in addition to attending school. There are multiple reasons why a large percentage of jocks are known to take easier courses and majors. Some of them are just plain dumb, that's true, but maintaining a courseload in a difficult major while participating in all the hundreds of other aspects of playing basketball or football is very stressful.

quote:My God, imagine the benefits to an 18-19 yr old stud. What's stopping a big money booster who owns a Cadillac dealership from signing over a shiny new vehicle to a 5* in exchange for his signature on a football program?
If you think recruiting players is dirty now? just let some booster tell a kid he can make sure he gets an autograph show 2-3 times a year where he will be guaranteed a $20,000 profit at each show.
Alabama, georgia, LSU, Auburn might can make those promises. McNeese State? GT? UCF? No.
Hell, what if an 18 yr old true-frosh QB went in for the 2nd half of a national championship game and threw the game winning TD pass! That booster could easily fork over a Cadillac for Momma too and all the QB would have to do is appear at an autograph session hosted at the boosters dealership.
The possibilities are limitless for these kids.

Still trying to see what the problem is.

At least it won't be under the table anymore.

Sounds good to me.
So I take it you had no problem with what Ole Miss did?
You have no problem with schools buying players? If it happens, I could easily see football going away for thousands of schools. You will eventually have 20 teams playing football with maybe 5 with a credible chance of winning a championship.
