Which championship? Because MSU went 8-1-1 in '41.

and won the SEC and beat the 8-2 Bama team that claims a championship.

Bama claims a Natl Championship that year as well. What was their record? And who won between Bama and State that year?

It wasn't an insult. I just remember reading about it and it saying yall had won an award for the best in the nation (something to do with cows). I said I was serious so it wouldn't be taken as a flame.

word. I guess when I saw that post and then saw your sig pic(which is hilarious), I assumed it was an insult.

Awesome. That still doesn't mean MSU was the champ.

9-2

Congrats on one of your 18 total victories over Bama.
FTR: I use cfbdatawarehouse as my source on championships, and it doesn't list MSU with any.

Well Alabama claims 1941 as a NC, while ya'll went 8-2. MSU went undefeated that year in the SEC, with a 14-0 victory AT ALABAMA. Finished ahead of Alabama in the AP poll. Our only loss was to a top 10 team on the road.
Also MSU went 10-0-1 in 1940, undefeated in SEC, won the Orange Bowl, but still finished 9th in the Polls, behind teams such as Northwestern (6-2) Nebraska (8-2) Texas A&M (9-1) Tennessee (9-1). All of those teams got a share of the 1940 title, and MSU didn't, while we were more deserving. We could actually claim 2 titles, but for some reason don't. I wish we would to be honest.

Again, this doesn't mean that MSU is the champ for that year.

We were 9-2 that year, we won our bowl game.

Awesome. You know who finished at #1 in the AP poll? Hint: It wasn't MSU.

Why? Because you finished 9th in the AP poll?

doesn't make alabama either

you still lost to us and had a worse record

which is why we don't claim it

If Bama claims the championship for a year, any year, first they have the championship rights to that year. Too bad MSU...

I don't claim that Bama was the champ that year, feel better? It doesn't change the fact that MSU wasn't the '41 champ.

Apparently you didn't get the point. We finished 9th, yes, but had a better record than the teams that finished ahead of us, and we won the Orange Bowl. We basically got screwed in the rankings.

So obviously you recognize Arkansas' 1964 National Championship.

No, you didn't. Three of the teams that finished ahead of MSU that year were undefeated.

Maybe, but that doesn't make you champions.

They list us both as '64 champions, but Bama does have the trophy so

Fwiw my point is just that MSU has a just as good, if not better, argument as other teams to claim a NC for either the 1940 or 1941 seasons. People want to flame MSU for having never won a NC, when in fact we had 2 teams good enough to claim one, we just chose not to claim one.
Posted on 2/1/12 at 4:12 pm to BamaFan89
If Arkansas being champs in '64 isn't recognized by most fans, I don't think MSU in 1940 or 41 has much of a chance.

Arky at least finished #2 in the coaches and AP poll for '64. MSU finshed 9th in '40 and 16th in '41 in the AP poll.
