The point of the portal for programs like Arkansas is that they no longer have to wait for three years for players to develop when they can go after good seasoned players at middle or lower power 5 programs or very good FCS players. You can also use both the portal and NIL to get highly rated players that are rotting on the bench at more prestigious programs aka Drew Sanders.

Did you see what Georgia and South Carolina did to them. The suck has already arrived….

I get the idea, but it's basically a ramped-up JUCO concept if you want to find something to compare it to. My point to the UGA fan was that theoretically, a team can be built to an actually pretty competitive level with that method. We've seen it done before, even if it's not working out for a lot of teams at the moment.

Since Sam has been here he’s used the transfers to help win 3 conference games his first year as compared to none the previous 2 years, helped win 9 games last year and made a bowl this year despite injury issues.
This while improving high school recruiting. Hopefully as the young recruits develop he won’t have to rely as heavily on the portal, but in the meantime he’ll have to cull those who can’t cut it and bring in help until his base is more solid.
This is still early in his tenure so the jury is still out as far as I’m concerned. I think he’s done well under the circumstances…

He gets that excuse for MSU. The A&M and Liberty losses were inexcusable, and LSU was at least winnable in OT if he kicked a field goal instead of going for it on 4th and goal in the first quarter. I don't know what shenanigans, if any, went on in the Missouri game because I didn't care to watch it.
For Liberty in particular, they were down to their own third string quarterback and scored 21 points in the first half. And that's third string in the G5, for frick's sake. There's not an excuse for losses like that and I'm tired of hearing them. We went 6–6 in a year when the SEC-W was very mortal because Pittman just isn't a very good coach right now. He'll either grow or he won't, but Liberty and A&M at the very least were inexcusable.

You can use the portal to build up teams. It gives coaches a second chance to reevaluate these players after a few years at a program.
The portal can expose these players who were sought after coming out of high school but didn't do anything at a high level. It also gives overlooked players a chance to transfer and compete in a major conference and prove to the critics that they are better players than what they think they are.

Until our administration gets serious about winning football games (which means not hiring the SMU coach with a losing record, not hiring lifelong o-line coaches, and not getting fat alcoholics ludicrious extensions for a 7–6 season that still leaves them with a losing overall record), we won't see the improvement we want
This guy gets it.
Arkansas got out of their comfort zone with the Petrino hire. Even after three solid seasons it ended up biting them in the arse.
They knew Bobby had baggage and hired him anyway. Doubt they'll make that mistake again.
Sam was the safe hire at the time. Not a championship coach but a good solid 6-9 win coach in the toughest league in the NCAA.

I didn't like the A&M game where after the superman fumble that Sam was asked going into half how he would address the team going into the half. He said it wasn't a big deal, well Sam hell yes it is a big deal as the team played like shite in the second half.
I was at the Liberty game and the team came out flat and dragged arse until the fourth. That was the most lethargic and sloppy team that I have seen since the Chad years. I know it isn't an SEC team but shite can this team just play hard all four quarters please? Nope let them get a big lead and wait until 10 minutes in the game and try to win.
I didn't like either how when Bama came to town where Arkansas was unprepared and afraid of them. 28-0 before Arkansas scored a lone TD late in the second quarter. I don't remember any SEC game that Bama played had such a dominating first half. But I could tell by looking at the body language of Arkansas that they didn't want to face Bama. That has to be fixed if Arkansas wants to beat Bama ever again.

That POS Jeff Long had zero respect for the program, the fans and the state of Arkansas. Because he didn't give a shite and was so arrogant that caused him to make a terrible hire in Bert who had no business being in the SEC.

His age prevents him from becoming an elite level coach. He started too late and most coaches his age begin to fizzle out.
