This all reflects very poorly on Auburn, and that is why I think they need to get out in front of this very aggressively. All we know about Cam (that is FACT) is that he bought a stolen laptop, was arrested for buying it,was a pretty shitty driver in Gainesville, and was a model citizen at Blinn College before coming to Auburn. What else is there that is fact? Auburn/MSU/Oklahoma all knew about the facts before they recruited Newton, and also knew about the pay for play rumors while they continued to recruit him. I will be very pissed at Newton if the NCAA finds that the Newtons took money, but I am not going to burn him at the stake over a lot of "hearsay".

As you shouldnt

The SEC fans know a lot of this whole thing is "he said she said" & are up in the air about the situation.
Just waiting to see what happens.

Anyone outside of SEC country doesnt care about the facts, guilty until proven innocent.

That's absolutely not true. I live outside the SEC (in Texas) and am receiving unsolicited emails from my Big 12 friends who all believe that the entire story is a smear campaign against Newton. It's only the people in the SEC that want and believe all of this to be true.

You go to jail for smear campaigns; its called slander and libel.
Politicians yield a little more power than Mark Schlabach and other cronies pumping out stories for 70k a year, job security is a hell of a drug.

Nobody at the NY Times or ESPN is completely fabricating stories in order to smear Newton, thats beyond retarded.

Whether the sources are legitimate and being truthful is basically what it boils down to.

ESPN and the NYT might not have fabricated the stories to smear Newton, but the "sources" clearly did. The problem with ESPN and the NYT is that they never even bothered to investigate and check their facts before they reported the "story." They just ran with what John Bond told them happened and then drew unsubstantiated conclusions.

When he does something at Auburn I will be

Until then, he has only embarrassed himself, UF, Corch, award winning singer Kenny Rogers, etc

Would you want Cam dating your dtr or sister?

listen... if you had an employee who was late ALL the time... and kept saying he was sorry. yet he continued to be late over and over and over.... at some point you gotta realize he's not really sorry because if he were his behavioral patterns would change.

So using your analogy, the employee was late and an awful employee for another company and engaged in some shady dealings that were never made public.

But now that he's at your company, he's a standup guy, making you tons of money, has great leadership, shows up on time and hasn't engaged in anything shady?

So why should a manager or fellow employee at Company No. 2 be pissed if he's doing his job and going above and beyond expectations?

Auburn fans may be a little blind and overly defensive of anything (who can blame us), but there's absolutely NO reason for Auburn or Company 2 to punish Cam Newton or the employee for things that have nothing to do with the present.

Ignoring m2pro's flamebait, yes I am a little pissed at Cam about all this.

Obviously, if you're Auburn, opportunities like this (SECCG, BCSCG, Heisman) don't come along very often, and I really hate how all of the furor over Cam has dampened my enthusiasm. And I put a good bit of the blame for this directly on Cam - I'd have preferred that he had spoken openly about his time at UF prior to the season, and made clear in interviews why he left for Blinn when he did, rather than try to pass it off as a 'playing time' issue.

I'm not excusing his actions in the past. It's clear he was a troublemaker while he was a Gator. It's also pretty common knowledge that the UF football program has been a hotbed for bad behavior for some time now, and that their HC's apparent emotional instability has made it more difficult to address.

Despite the rhetoric from Tidesters, AU has a pretty good reputation in recent years regarding off-field incidents and academic violations. We tend to keep the details quiet, but they don't go unpunished. While most of that was during Tubs' tenure, I've seen little indication that anything has changed since Chizik took over.

The ONLY thing that concerns me is the allegations that someone was shopping Cam's services. If that turns out to be even remotely correct, then I will be more than pissed, at Cam and anyone else associated with his arrival on the Plains.

What has he done at Auburn other than show up to practice and games on time, be a good teamate and a role model to young kids when he's not in class, practice or studying?
