so I'll wait until y'all are done playing South Carolina before making certain comments.

And therein lies our problem. South Carolina matches up VERY well against us. Most on here talk only about Clowney, however, they may have the most diminate front 4 in the SEC. Chaz Sutton and Kelsey Quarles present their own challenges along the front. It is VERY difficult to give Clowney your full attention because of these two guys. They can put a tremendous amount of pressure on a quarterback with very little help. Murray does not do as well when pressured, unless someone is running around loose. I just don't think LSU can put the same kind of pressure without help from their secondary, or blitzing linebackers. That leaves other options open. South Carolina can put pressure without LB or DB help. South Carolina will present more of a challenge defensively that LSU will, although, overall LSU PROBABLY will have the better defense. I do believe that SC's defense will come out a little better this year, though.

LSU can have a tendancy to come out unfocused at times. (See: Clemson) They will not have trouble being focused on Georgia, though. Hint: Keep a CLOSE eye on the LSU/TCU game. That will tell you a LOT about how LSU's year will go. TCU is not being hyped, thus LSU MIGHT have a more difficult time focusing. TCU has a great defense and will be getting their QB back from rehab, so their offense will greatly be improved. You could very well see a HUGE upset in that game.

LSU. UGA can't stop the run.

Asinine. Your top receiver had the same amount of production as ours who played 4 games on defense. Our second best receiver who would have led our team in yards, tore an ACL halfway through the season. And we utilize the tight end. Don't kid yourself.

With or without him LSU will have top half of SEC group of RBs

And we have the best backfield, perhaps in the country. What are you saying here?

It's this simple. If Cam has improved Mett and the LSU offense by the uga game then tigers win.

It's not that simple.

Last year, no. This year we have a new d line coach who actually likes to rotate d linemen. And we actually have good depth there for the first time in a long time.

Just my July 27 early impression. Playing more DLinemen will be key for UGA to improve on last years success. Where this game sits on each team's schedule might be biggest factor. Haven't checked yet but to me the two weeks prior and week after can reveal an edge to one or the other.

So because UGA has a new coach on defense, they will be improved.

...but because LSU has a new coach on offense, they will struggle.

Makes sense.

It seems like it's okay to predict LSU's struggles on offense based on last year, why can't we assume UGA struggles on defense based on last year?

Gotta say I like our chances at home, LSU's offense just doesn't scare me. Don't get all butthurt.

Mostly because we have a completely different strategy. Rotating D linemen constantly keeping them fresh. And we finally have the depth to do it

I don't think your offense will be great because of your quarterback. He just isn't that good. Sure he has his moments but he just doesn't have it. And when has LSU ever been known for their offense? Why is this such a hang up for y'all?

But, but, but, Mettenberger was leading the QB race at UGA before he got kicked off the team. So Mettenberger > Murray

Don't want to get into the other stuff. I too, would be surprised if we put up 35 pts on LSU.

To clarify, the ~35 and ~21 are pretty much the most I think each offense can score. Not necessarily a score prediction. I expect a spread of around 10, with those scores being the most I'd reasonably think either O will score on the other D.

This offensive truly does present more matchup problems for teams....I don't remember ever seeing such a well balanced, explosive offense in college football

On paper. Without a game having been played, this looks like one of the most dangerous offenses I've ever seen. We'll see if it lives up to that once the ball is actually snapped. I expect them to be pretty sick.

I really think it depends on how UGA starts the season.
If the dawgs start 2-1. I think UGA wins by a couple scores.
If the dawgs start 1-2 I think LSU wins big.
If the dawgs are 3-0 I think it's last one with the ball.

It will come down to team psyche.

It will be interesting to see what happens. LSU and UGA both lost star talent on D, but UGA's D was inconsistent even with that star studed talent. LSU always reloads on D.

But I see UGA's offense at worst being just as good as last year, and most likely better.

I give UGA the edge, even with the though schedule. The game is at home, and even though I think UGA's D takes much more of a hit than LSU's, recent LSU offenses show they don't produce. I think it really just all comes down to Cam.

Right, and LSU finally having an OC means they will have the same old strategy.

The last time LSU played UGA, Kenny Hilliard scored 3 TDs, 2 on the ground. He's a junior this season. The OL starting 5 averages something like 315 lbs.

You don't need a great QB to have a good offense.

quote:

And when has LSU ever been known for their offense?

For ever. LSU is always loaded at RB.

In 2007 LSU was #7 in the nation in rushing offense, 11th in scoring.

In 2011 LSU was #2 in rushing and pass efficiency in the league and led the league in scoring.

But let me put it to you like this:
quote:

And when has UGA ever been known for their defense? Why is this such a hang up for y'all?

If UGA doens't stop the run, LSU's QB play will be irrelevant.
