It will be a travesty if Vandy does not host. Can you imagine the outcry by State fans if they swept us during the regular season, had a better conference record and a higher RPI, and the NCAA chose Nashville over Starkville? That would mean there is no reward for better performance.

No, its not.

But we have no hotels in Nashville so this will have to be at MSU.

Its a logistics and capacity thing.

There are no hotel rooms in Nashville this weekend and the stadium is high school sized.

I'm sure there are hotels available in Franklin, Murfreesboro, Bellvue, Hendersonville, Brentwood, Hermitage, Lebanon, Mt. Juliet, Spring Hill, etc. Yes, hotels in downtown Nashville are maxed out this weekend, but every hotel in the Nashville metro area is not at full capacity. What will be more helpful for State is the size of the stadiums. But when it comes down to it, there will be a completely subjective decision made and multiple factors considered.

Don't really know what criteria they use. Each is certainly worthy of hosting. Records are almost identical 34-25/35-26 SEC records are basically the same 16-15/15-16. Starkvegas/Columbus have plenty of hotel rooms so that is not a problem. Vandy has thousands of rooms so even though they have a festival theoretically they probably have some hotel availability.
The fact that Vandy played at State and swept us the first weekend of the season has absolutely nothing to do with this decision.
If everything else is equal then money will probably be the final tiebreaker.
So for example if you sell SR Packages for $50 a pop then the math is as follows:
Vandy 50 X 3700 = $185,000 just in ticket sales alone

State 50 X 10,000 (estimating here may be more or less than that) = $500,000. Again just ticket sales alone.

That is $315,000 difference in money. Now I am sure the ticket package could be different but that gives you a look at the difference in $$$ between Hawkins and Dudy Noble.

Vandy consistently ranks around 20-21 in national attendance. And there have recently been built so many freaking hotels there is no way we couldnt handle 500 State fans.

You’d be surprised at how many hotel rooms are booked in Nashville metro. And the ones that aren’t, will be quite damn expensive.

This city has a shortage of hotels on a random weekday. On CMA weekend, they’re crazy scarce.

As much as I want to host, I agree with this. If Starkville is the site, it's purely a revenue move by the NCAA.

I just recently moved from midtown to Franklin. I am very aware of what goes on during CMA Fest every year.

not there's not. There's a shortage of affordable hotels downtown. But they also just built two skyrise hotels in the last 2 years to go along with dozens of other new hotels built in the last couple of years. The hotel shortage is not what it once was. Not to mention a sizable portion of the CMA Fest people rent out Air BnBs for the weekend

And we're talking about accommodating about 500 people for a baseball series, not a football game with 50k extra people.

Lsu was an embarrassment to the SEC this weekend.

I think most non-hosts in the SEC would have had similar results against Oregon State. They’re ridiculous.

They are very good. They returned the majority of a team that was the #1 overall seed in last year's tournament including their ace pedo pitcher who didn't pitch in the tournament last year.

No, you don't have a higher RPI than State does.

Warren Nolan has us 19th and you are sitting at 21st.

LINK

I wouldn't be too upset if they selected Vandy over State but even our half-constructed stadium trumps your "stadium" by a country mile. The atmosphere and the crowd will be unbelievable at Starkville compared to Nashville.

that's including the NCAAT games. But you're still right. Entering the tournament, Vandy's RPI was 38 and State's 28

So, either 3,700 Vandy fans get to watch their team win, or 10,000 State fans get to watch their team lose. If the Dores have to drive 5 hours to beat State's arse, then so be it. Hell, Cohen can even interview Corbin for the job at the Golden Corral afterwards. Doesn't make much of a difference to me.

The atmosphere is very good at Vandy. You just don’t want to believe that. But I grant you it will be better at State. And it will be more lively with 98% State fans. It will be an unfair hostile venue for Vandy to play at, especially given we have already won there this year. It is hard to beat the same team on their home field 5 out of 6 times. If I were you, I would want to play in Nashville. Then if you win, it will be legit.

I’m not taking away from Vandy but I wouldn’t call this State team the same team that got swept early in the year

Clearly the Vandy team that hit 9 HRs last night isn’t the same team either. It’ll be interesting to see if the NCAA puts any stock in head to head and other on the field accomplishments when it makes this decision.
