I think any time a coach wins 10 games in his first season, that could be viewed as a success.

Saban lost 6 in his first season at Alabama.

Interesting how people try to hold Kelly to an entirely different standard despite 2022 LSU being picked to go 6-6 by many.

Do you remember Alabama fans talking about what a success that season was? I don't. Excitement over the recruiting. Yes. But the actual season not so much.

I guess you misread my question. So I will try again.

I'm taking LSU

Both coordinators return
Starting and backup QB return
Entire RB room returns + additions
Most of the WR room returns (Jenkins and Boutte left, Boutte disappointed last year anyway)
Entire OL returns
Front 7 looks nasty

Bama has question marks at QB and is breaking in 2 new coordinators, WR room had a lot of drops last year even with Young throwing to them, Gibbs is gone, Will Anderson gone

Not to say Bama can't win it, nor should they be counted out. Saban's earned that benefit of the doubt. And I do have some homerism in me here, but I think LSU's continuity and experience returning (both players and coaches) should be given high consideration here. It's going to come down to that game in November again like it almost always does.

I honestly don't remember what Alabama fans were saying in 2007, I was like 13 years old.

Not really sure how it matters what Alabama fans were saying 15+ years ago, Alabama fans are just as delusional as the majority of sports fans.

They were not using words like success to describe it.

And you brought up the Alabama team from 15 years ago..

Again, you brought up Alabama.

Point was, Was last year a success like many on here have said about the 2022 LSU football team? Losing 4 games in college football is not normally considered a success unless your team is Vandy.

I would consider going 10-4 in the first year of a rebuild after being sub .500 over the past two seasons a definite success.

Especially when you throw in the fact that they won the division.

That is something to be proud of. Almost like winning something.

Better to have done it than not.

Especially in the first year of a rebuild with a talent and roster deficit.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you are happy about LSU being a little better than average.

LSU has higher goals ultimately as a program than what the 2022 team accomplished. But in the context of what that individual team was expected to do, a first year coaching staff coming off of a 2 year period where they went a combined 11-12, they exceeded those expectations so yes it was a success.

In other years that probably wouldn't be seen as a successful season. I have higher goals for the program going forward but for an inaugural year for a new coaching staff it was more than acceptable.

But you used success and then said more than acceptable.

More than acceptable is a great answer.
