Michael Sam was an effeminate bitch compared to Jackie Walker, who was gay, and black, in the 60s, before it was "cool" to be either.
Walker was a 2 time All-American, who teams actually feared. Nobody was afraid of Sam. Michael Sam won SEC DPOTY because he was gay, not in spite of it.

No, he did not publicly come out until after he won the SECDPOTY. It was right before the draft.
Don't get me wrong, he didn't deserve a "Courage" award but he earned the SECDPOTY on the field.
