I think there is a case to be made by all three as well as Miami or even SMU if they lose. Saying Vandy is better than Kentucky may be true but not by much really. In the past we have been told it matters “how” you win and lose. Ole Miss won by a lot more and lost by a lot less than Bama the grievance is not that OM clearly deserves the spot. The grievance is nobody knows in advance what criteria the committee uses and then they pop up and point to the specific metrics needed to make the biggest and most lucrative program the pick. It’s what we all fear will happen with people like Notre Dame to justify their inclusion.
To be fair USC there have been times in the past where people justified rankings because someone “is the hottest team right now.”

Ole Miss had 9 wins, (4 of which were to powerhouses Ga. Southern, Middle TN, Furman, and Wake Forest who went 4-8) and only two wins against a team with a winning record (Georgia and SC). They lost to a very suspect LSU , and Florida and an awful KY. "Tell me how that enables them to be a "Playoff Team". All they really have is a coach who spends more time on social media than a 16 year old girl.

All three deserve to be in IF we are trying to get the top 12 teams in the playoffs.
Boise, ISU/ASU and Indiana have no business in the field. You could add the ACC teams as being below Bama/Ole Miss/USC as well.
The SEC has 6 of the top 12 teams this year.

Honestly I am not a fan of the 12 team playoff. It’s a celebration of mediocrity. Really the 4 team was probably most fair as it avoided what happened to Auburn when they went undefeated and got left out. If you can’t justify that you are top 4 you don’t deserve a shot at the title. Just my opinion.
