I have a novel idea here! How about you let your adult son choose for himself what school he wants to play for.

I just don't get why the Ags over-hype their programs so much. They have a good school; they are a member of AAU. They've got a sense of honor and tradition that fit in very nicely into the SEC.

Kudos.

BUT, according to 2012 USNews, Texas has better Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and Chemical engineering degrees. I didn't look at Petroleum, but I'll assume that TAMU is better on this one.

McCombs school of business is better than TAMU's, and even the Aggies acknowledge that Texas has much better Liberal Arts than TAMU.

And Fine Arts? TAMU doesn't offer much here at all.

TAMU College of Medicine is no where near UT's flagship Medical school( Southwestern in Dallas,) and Texas' Law school is top notch as well.

SO...simmer down, Ags, you have a lot of great things going for you, and your future is bright.

But you haven't caught Texas yet.

And yet we're ahead in the only ranking that matters: Salaries

You're conceding the point, though. It has never been a/b what school produces the graduates w/ the highest potential income. It's a/b academic reputation. And A&M doesn't even move the meter in that regard, while Vanderbilt buries the needle. Not to mention that a sizable minority of liberal arts grads (i.e. non tech or ag schools) pursue grad degrees which up their potential income well beyond that of an engineer.

I'm sure A&M's strongest program (and just a/b EVERY SEC school's strongest program) is competitive w/ the best of the best. The true ranking of your school is what your weakest program provides. And a History major from A&M is triple fricked, while a History major from Vanderbilt is interviewing at McKinsey.

A&M's little brother complex is giving me secondhand embarrassment.

Agricultural- we are waaaaaaay better
Veterinary sciences- we are waaaaay better
Engineering- we are waaaaaay better
I have a computer science degree from A&M and we have the inventor of c++ on staff

We just got a law school like a year ago and mays has the connections so its arguably just as valuable

Idk why y'all come in here and say Texas is way better and point out their strengths but not mention ours that offset the schools

Why would we try to catch Texas when we're not behind them?

And why the frick are we talking about Texas.

Texas is a superior school to Texas A&M in just a/b every regard save the scraps you guard so jealously in posts like these.

But you're in the SEC now. You don't have to behave like the stepchild anymore. Let go, dude.

EDIT: And if you think your newly inaugurated law school (you have one?) is the equal of one of the finest public law schools in the country than you need to pump the fricking brakes, jesus christ.

Great connections in the state, but Texas has those as well. Outside of Texas...nope.

Because you guys continue to blow all of this smoke about being an academic powerhouse, and in engineering, agriculture, and veterinary stuff you are very good.

But in my opinion-- and it is only an opinion-- your lack of emphasis/excellence in Liberal Arts, Fine Arts, Law, and Medicine keep you from being the nationally-renowned organization you want and deserve to be.

The one with a good English class that teaches you to not end a sentence or question with a preposition.

Kidding. But I'll go with Vanderbilt or UF.

Nice first post, alter.

Another sentence ending in a preposition. Are these the same 25,000 women that no males at A&M are hitting up for dates?

This is exactly what I mean. People jus say that Texas is better save the stuff A&M is good at. I can turn around and say that A&M is better save the hippy liberal art crap majors.

And my point about the law school is you can't really fault us for being way behind in that...we just got one

I disagree that we need to be good in liberal arts and other hippy crap to be a great university. If you're interested in artsy stuff just got to Texas. It's the same reason that Texas doesn't need to establish a top of the line ag program to be highly regarded.

It's really not blowing smoke about our academics. Check the ratings, we're up there with the best public schools. It's not like we're 200 and we claim to be 20th. More than anything I think y'all just want to troll ags and what better way to do that than by bring up our former rivals

However I took the bait because I want to set the record straight with sec folks that are not familiar with our academics

Yea we are a top public school. That doesn't mean we are THE top public school. I don't get why fans of other schools feel compelled to put us down by randomly bringing up the teasips.

Check the thread. It was Aggies in here claiming academic parity w/ Vanderbilt that got this started.

A&M is a great regional school w/ some top notch programs. That's enough to brag a/b in its own right w/out making outrageous claims a/b academic reputation and law school dominance.

And just for the record, to everyone, anyone waving USNews rankings around like they're gospel is directly undermining the perception of the quality of their own school's statistics program.

Also there's nothing wrong w/ ending a sentence w/ a preposition.

Petroleum engineering degree? That's the point. Yes, y'all dominate in that area. But there is more to a school than a few core competencies. And as far as your business school, it's good, but nothing out of the ordinary.

According to US News and World Report, our MBA program is ranked right behind Vanderbilt's?

Academic parity? I mean my original claim was that we are the only other school to take education seriously, and then you made the claim that all state schools are essentially homogeneous. I would make the claim that Texas A&M is closer to Harvard, than South Carolina is to Texas A&M. Does that make us academic equals?
