I'm afraid there won't be a lot of AU posters chiming in here. They're in a lose/lose situation. They don't want to admit they have sidewalk fans, but they also don't want to claim the crazies that have come out of the woodwork lately.

The ones that will chime in (and we all know who they are) are part of those crazies and don't realized it. So they'll argue vehemently as usual while citing ITAT "facts".

For the SEC? I'd say Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, and then South Carolina?

MUCH more so than the Alabama ones last year. I never knew Auburn had so many fans here.

You are also forgetting the age old issue... If a school doesn't have sidewalk fans, it's because the only reason people like them is because they went there.

Having grown up here in Alabama, I can tell you that's how their fanbase is. I equate it to a pack of coyotes. In lean years when rabbits and rodents are scarce, they produce very few young and many of the adults die out. When food is plentiful, the population literally explodes, more so than any other animal. Coyotes are running everywhere, pissing on everything claiming it was theirs all along. But, they quickly decimate their food source and are hard to find again within a couple of years.

You had to have seen them in 2004. As soon as Cam Fever hit, faux Houndstooth hat magnets were tossed in the trash for tiger tails coming out of the trunk.

There's a certain segment of the AL population that are purely bandwagon fans and they rotate to whomever is winning. Late 90's it was UT, 03/04 it was AU, last few years it's been UA & now it's UA/AU mix.

Whoever has the hot hand brings out the Wal-mart jersey contingent.

all teams have bandwagon fans. I would say that right now we have a larger than normal share simply cause we won. next season we will see a portion bleed off to the next successful team, probly Bama.

If you drive through the Publix parking lot, I guarantee that half of the newly clad Auburn cars were Alabama cars last year, and Auburn cars in 2004.

It's a 12 way tie.

And what is wrong with fans who didn't graduate from said school? That's just silly. Do you realize how comparatively small a fanbase would be if only graduates rooted for a school?

And yes, I do have an Arkansas degree, doesn't make me more of a fan or a better fan than my dad, who does not.

I agree Bella and Sugar - some fans just flip flop - my brother is a prime candidate. was an AU fan for 10 years, then we had the last shitty season under tubs - Bama was on the rise, so he jumped ship to Bama in time for the NC. he then smack talked as if he had been a lifelong Bama fan.

my point being - who the frick cares if a school has more sidewalk/bandwagon fans - the team that wins it all is gonna pick up a few "fleas", but as soon as someone does better - those Fleas jump to the next successful team.

its the way of sports.

FWIW, I'm considered a bandwagon fan since I didn't go to school at Auburn.

by their logic Midnite so am I - I went to AUM for 2 semesters before moving back home to Mobile. I don't have an AU diploma or degree - but I stand with my team 1000%.
