Title IX says that the opportunties for women and men have to be equal. That meant that many men’s sports got cut when Title IX was established. Football was especially difficult, because it uses so many scholarships relative to other sports.
What else can I help you understand today?

Title IX demands equal opportunities between men and women’s sports in participation. Football has 85 or so players, NO women’s sports are anywhere near that number. Men’s teams were cut especially in wrestling, track and tennis in the 80’s to get in compliance. The courts refused to exempt football so other sports had to go. I went to Missouri State and this happened to wrestling, men’s track, men’s cross country and men’s tennis while I was in school in the late 80’s to 90’s. Had a lady in Springfield who constantly sued about Title IX. It was not meant to hit men’s sports but it did. Hell SEC teams were wiped out in wrestling as LSU, Auburn, Kentucky, and Tennessee all had teams. With Mizzou and OU already wrestling it would be great to see it back but it just won’t happen. Of all SEC teams Arkansas would be the most likely to add it. Greg Hatcher is stupid rich and has supported wrestling teams starting across Arkansas. Hell UALR had 2 All Americans in D1 this year and they just started like 4-5 years ago.
