Arkansas played in a relatively weak conference for most of its history, with only one real top-tier program to contend with--Ole Miss, by contrast, played in a severely competitive conference with at least a half-dozen top-tier programs to compete with.....
year by year I have a hard time with the half dozen top tier programs comment... At least in terms of depth I don't think the SEC has ever really been close to as strong as they are now
Plus years ago the SEC conference schedules were different with fewer in conference games (even tho there were fewer teams you didn't play everyone)... something like 6 conference games was often fairly typical back when Ole Miss was good

Who are some teams out of the SEC that you guys would compare Mississippi State's football program with?
Baylor

Northwestern, Indiana, Stanford, Rutgers, and Kansas come to mind.

that's a pretty good choice.

Baylor
Agreed. that's actually the team I chose to compare us with earlier today on page 1.

response: last 20 years... ole miss 10 wins, miss state 10 wins
miss state has won the west and gone to the sec championship game... ole miss never has
(and scoreboard this year)
bump for fun

Which is why we consider you delusional.

I'll put it this way; every Ole Miss team that ever takes the field against an LSU team expects to win the game or, at the very least, come close......and you cannot honestly say that that expectation has not proven to be legitimate, given the results over the years, a few odd years nothwithstanding.....

And I'll put it this way, you haven't won jack shite since 1963.
Your whole frame of mind proves my point. You're just worried about the LSU game. We're worried about winning Championships.

Conference Titles:
Arky - 13
Miss - 6
Just for the record none, of Arky's Conference Titles are in the SEC. They shared the title with other teams 7 of those 13.

And until Saban arrived, neither had LSU since way back in 1970, except for one measly SEC championship in the 80's in a down year (you barely even managed to finish the season ranked in the top 10 that year despite the "vaunted" championship)

Until Ole Miss actually wins the West outright and goes to Atlanta to play for the SEC, you can't consider yourselves on equal ground with anyone in the SEC West.

Baloney.
All championships are NOT equal.
A championship won in a down year with a 5-3 record is not the same as one won in a strong year with an 8-0 record.
That is not to say that it is embarrassing not to have been to the title game, but it is not the be-all that ends all.....

False.

86 and 88 equals one?

Lots of excuses. Who says it was down that year? you? Why? Because LSU won?

I guess if Ole Miss ever finally wins that elusive post-integration SEC Championship, the SEC will have to be damn near comatose.

Maybe not, but it's still a lot better than no championship at all

If someone would post a pic of Tebow with his shirt off, it would shut NJREB up and end this completely

You know what I meant...
Nick is a special coach.....
Now that his coattails have worn off, you are back to being pretty mediocre, with 4 losses last season and 5 the year before that.....

You were better for 1 decade, arguably 2, and you were an all-time better program?
