Probably well documented in RI school books about how the Plantation kept all those pesky coloreds out of their school for so long and how the National Guard had to come and enroll one.
What's not well documented is how, three years later, Mississippi State integrated.

Ole Miss, unless you honestly don't give a damn where you live.

That's where you're wrong. State fans love to say this to justify their arguments that "omg teh Grove ain't much better than the JuNcTiOn y'all" and so forth, but it's simply not true.
I haven't lived in Mississippi for several years now. Yes, I have met plenty of people who don't know dick about either Ole Miss or State, but I have also met plenty of people who have said things like "You went to Ole Miss? I've always wanted to go to the Grove!" or "man, y'all have lots of hot girls there, right?" or "I hear Oxford is a great place."
I also get the "OMG YOU ARE A RACIST BECAUSE YO UWENT TO OLE MISS!!11" on occasion as well. The point is that Ole Miss does have a national reputation, both good and bad. State does not. Period.
Just this year there were features about Oxford written in the New York Times, the Washington Post, Parade Magazine, the Guardian (that's a newspaper in fricking ENGLAND, bro), and a handful of other publications. I'm not talking about a national sports column writing about a football team (we have been on the SI cover as of late, which you all mock due to our "fall from grace," but you know what they say about bad publicity...), I'm talking about journalists, travel writers, food critics, and so forth.
I'm sure you love State and Starkville, and I don't blame you for doing so. I just think it's silly for any of you to pretend that people outside of the South don't recognize Ole Miss. They do, and they do so moreso than they do State.
Because journalists write about Oxford, this makes the OM Football coaching position a better job?
Oh and by the way, I can also give you a ton of journalism on how awesome the city of Memphis is...

Because Ole Miss has a more nationally recognized brand, the Ole Miss job is perceived as being a better job (and, in this case, perception is reality).

Doesn't matter, we didn't fight it like you did. Again, embrace your history brother. You earned it

For every coach that thinks of OM's brand in a good way, there is equally one that thinks of OM's brand in a bad way.

Yeah maybe you didn't "fight" because you saw what happened at Ole Miss and Bama and knew the same would happen at State.
Don't pretend like Starkville was some sort of bastion of racial harmony while the rest of the South was fighting against the Civil Rights Movement. You'd have to be delusional to believe that.
ETA: And what the frick did I "earn"? I was born in the 1980's dipshit. You telling me to "embrace" something like that would be akin to some New Englander telling you to "embrace" the history of Jim Crow in the South. You're just being a count at that point.

We will let the coaching search answer this one. Already several reports of people turning down the coaching job at OM.

Those reports, if they even exist, are false. Your blind hatred of everything OM is amusing.

I wouldn't go so far as to just declare them false.
I'd like to see them. Yes, there's Hudspeth which I elaborated upon in another thread. Other than that, I don't know who else has removed themselves from consideration.

It really is. Add to it that he is a "grown man" with a "job" and has "kids" and it's even funnier that he is on a message board on tuesday morning flaming away...

I didn't realize y'all hired Sylvester Croom in 1962...

Because you hired a black coach makes you less racist than OM? That's like saying I'm not racist I have like four black friends!
Posted on 11/29/11 at 9:38 am to MaroonNation
So you hired a black guy to save face? Congrats, and if it's true it's kind of a bitch move. "Embrace your past" or whatever you said a minute ago...

He's full of shite there are no reports.

I'll leave one more thought with you before I try to knock out some work for the day.
Both schools are perceived as stepping stones to coaches from the outside world.
OM fired Cutcliffe when he was doing fairly well for the school. Orgeron fired. Houston Nutt fired.
Miss St's coach just went 6-6 and is a "hot" candidate for every open position for upper tier schools (Miami & PSU, media hype for Florida 2 years in a row) Whether it's true or not, perception is reality.
It would be easy for an up and coming coach to see MSU as a better launching pad than OM.
