after living in both, NOLA blows BR out of the water as long as you're living in the city and not in metry

I don't know if you know this or not, but new orleans has a pretty bad crime problem...

BR has crime as well, but it's most segregated.

what kind of music do you like?

I kind of addressed that in my last post, but it's worth expanding on. I'm pretty heavy into Explosions in the Sky type stuff. Instrumentals make my loins tingle like Barack Obama to Chris Matthews.

Other than that, your run of the mill indie stuff. Modest Mouse, Animal Collective, and the like.

you live pretty close to me fwiw.

and oxford has GREAT music that comes through.

I figured you liked good music as well.

MM and wilco

BR gets some good bands that come through, too though.

ryan adams played a show couple weeks back and bands like american aquarium, lucero, and cory branan frequent BR.

like i said, as long as you are smart enough to be careful and don't mind living in an area with crime problems it's a great place. it's definitely an issue and i can understand why so many people wouldn't want to live there

Not a bad list. I need to find something to give me updates on bands coming through Baton Rouge. In Oxford it's so easy...here I'm still getting established.

Ascension ftw!

You know where I post. Next time they have a show, find me.

Or I'll email you. Too easy.

didn't Wilco play here not too long ago?

I've been to NO millions of times and never had any trouble. I simply use common sense.

Any Opelikan who thinks living close to New Orleans is a bad thing is a Bible-thumping rube who titillates himself with an Alabama-outlawed vibrator while reading the Song of Solomon.

I've been to many places in this country, and few can compare to the uniqueness, culture, and fun of New Orleans.

In what other city in America can you have a great time just by walking through the streets of downtown? New York? Sure. Miami, SF? OK. Atlanta? Dallas? Houston? Don't make me laugh.

Then throw in Mardi Gras, Jazzfest, the French Quarter Festival, Magazine Street, the Saints, the Hornets, and on and on... somebody from this planet would choose AUBURN/OPELIKA?

I lived in Charlotte NC for a long time. About as pretty and clean a major city this country could offer.... and I was bored. Give me New Orleans... I love the place and am happy to be back.

Yep, your used to over there. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I live near the mountains these days, ready to relax in a couple more years.

I would love to swap places I was trying to get a job in Huntsville just 2 or 3 hours from the Smokies. I will get to the mountains one day it is my dream. I may not like UT football but the state is beautiful and I want to get up to Ky, WV as well.
