Grew up in LA, was undecided growing up. Never a huge LSU fan cause I hated all the bandwagon fans and I was trying to be different I guess
. Had a ton of family that went to Ole Miss, not big sports fans though. Decided about my sophomore year of HS I was going to go there and have been a loyal fan ever since. Living back in LA makes it fun, catch a lot of hell cause Im always sporting OM gear and have it all over my house.

This decision, like most religious ones, is made by some people's families before they are born.
Also, like with other religious matters, it doesn't always "take".
This.

You cheer for which ever team you cheered for your entire life. Your team of choice should not be restricted to only the school you got your degree from. Some schools don't offer degrees that others do. It also seems pretty fricking shallow to swap teams after 18 years - just because you're about to go to school somewhere for 4 years.

This would become problematic for the vast majority of bama fans!
Tammy. Charles from Reeltown. End of story. We both have sidewalk fans. Every sports team in America has sidewalk fans. AU has just as high a percentage of them. You just have less sidewalkers because you have less fans in general.

Well, maybe if Auburn wasn't Bama's little brother they would have more sidewalk fans.
S'ok, Sonny... us Michael Corleone's are just fine with the way things are.

Grew up in an Auburn family and didn't pull for anyone else.
Went to Georgia Tech, obviously became a fan.
But you don't just stop pulling for your lifetime team. That's my experience.

So you are saying I could not be a fan of the Alaskan Mountaineers because I am not from Alaska nor did I attend college there?

I went to OM. Became an Ole Miss fan the day I got accepted.
I grew up a Georgia fan, and I root for them about 350 days a year

I say you should be a fan of who you want to be a fan of.
I was born and raised an Alabama fan. And now im even more rabid than either of my parents ever were. Went to school there for a time, finished somewhere else for logistical reasons, and will be a Bama fan until I die. It isnt that clear cut for some people though.
If you dont like that someone is a fan of a certain team because you have some kind of expectations of them based on where they live or went to school, then you are worrying too much about other peoples business.
I live in Alabama, and I'm a Oakland Raiders fan. What possible sense does that make? Zero
Do I give a flying frick if someone thinks its dumb? nope.... although there have been several years lately when I thought I was pretty dumb myself.

I agree with this. I obviously choose the school I went to as my primary one, but I cheer on many schools during the season. To be honest I may not always cheer a school, but I am a fan of great play, great coaching, a competitive game, and will even admire it when it's against my favorite team.

Grew up an LSU fan in Vidalia, right across from Natchez, an Ole Miss stronghold. We had unpopular relatives in Natchez who were big Rebel fans.
Lived in Kosciusko, Mississippi for seven years (68-74). While we were there I went to a ton of State games because my mom went back to school and got two degrees there.
Pulled for State, who had a 28-44-2 record during those years, except for when they played LSU.
I was the jackass wearing LSU swag in the middle of nothing but State & Ole Miss gear. As great as Bama was back then. I don't remember kids wearing their tee shirts. Maybe it wasn't available.
First game I attended at State was the 68 opener against LaTech. Mr. Bradshaw made my dad look silly for telling my brothers and I how much better SEC football was than any other brand!
I really enjoyed the games at State. My mom and dad sat in the student section and got $1 tickets for us in the end zone where the State players came out. The few games we saw them win, we got chin straps, sweat bands and a hand pad from the joyous Bulldogs as they came off the field.
Moved back to Louisiana before the 10th grade.
Went to LSU for the last three McClendon years and the first Stovall year.

1) Where you went to undergrad
2) Where you currently go to school
3) Childhood team
4) Random team you just happen to like
In that order.

Yeah, the last several years I have had to kind of pick a secondary team to cheer for along with my raiders to keep from slitting my wrist all season.
