But you could say that every year, couldn't you? I mean how do we know USC was better than AU in 2004? How do we know LSU was better than some of the other 2-loss teams in 2007? How do we know Utah wasn't the best team in 2008? Even with a 4 team playoff....how do you know #5 wasn't really the best team? Until we have a 64 team playoff in football can you really know who the true champ is, according to your idealistic standard?

I don't, but I will say that this is the only year that I can say that the method of winning the BCS could have swayed people's minds on who deserved the National Championship. The BCS should be whoever wins is the National Champ, but could any team in the history of the BCS champ game have lost the game fair and square, but the fashion in which the win came in to effect? If LSU had lost to Bama in January by a score of 9-6, and missed 7 field goals in the process... Who would deserve the championship? The AP would have named LSU. No doubt. If the system allows for the fashion in which the game occurred to determine the champion, then it doesn't actually determine the champion. It isn't a game of who can lose by a small margin and miss the most field goals in the process. It is just about winning, and LSU already proved they could beat Alabama. Am I saying Alabama didn't win the BCS? No. They are BCS Champs. That doesn't make them National Champs.

No I think the BCS was able to reasonably determine the National Champs in a lot of years. In those years, the manner in which a team won the BCS game never would have mattered. I just explained how it would have in January.

So by your logic, if TAMU wins the West in a few years and UF wins the East, but UF already beat TAMU in the regualr season, the SECCG should just be canceled? I'm guessing your view of the value of rematches would change in a heartbeat
