I think Chris Collins will be a head coach in the state of Illinois in the next year or so. Either at Illinois or Northwestern this year is they are open, or DePaul in the next couple of years. Wojo will get his chance soon, as well. I see Wojo at an A-10 school for his first gig.

Illinois will very likely get rid of Weber so State will have to compete with them. They will throw a lot of bank at whoever they want.

Illinois and Mississippi State will not be competing for the same coaches, if State even gets rid of Stans.
MSU will be competing with South Carolina.

I like our odds. South Carolina plays second fiddle to Clemson and loses in state recruits to other neighboring ACC schooling in North Carolina.

I think Gregg Marshall will make a move this year. South Carolina is where most project him, but State could be a player if Stans is fired. Marshall is from South Carolina, but I don't know how strong those ties are or if they will factor into his decision.

no, he has earned local appreciation/respect and some time, at VCU.
if he goes to any other school, he has to start all over, only difference, now he makes major money and people would DEMAND INSTANT IMPROVEMENT.
That's what happened to Mark Gottfried. He was a Bama grad, and he had successfully recruited TWO players of the year from Alabama to go to Murray where Gottfried had OVC conference winners. Bama alumni decided Gottfried would similarly get Bama to NCAA and similarly recruit the BEST Bama guys.
He didnt do it. So he got run off. Notice that the guy who coaches Butler also turned down similar opportunities as VCU guy.
Butler is just another so-so team this year and no one is screaming to fire the coach.
How long will Billy Kennedy last at TAMU? two years?
is Kennedy on the IR?

This isn't football. State can compete. We make the right hire, we compete. We don't make the right hire, maybe we end up like SC and really won't be that much different. We just lost to GA, LSU, and Auburn in games we were favored, and our fans hate our program and don't support it well like we used to. Going down to SC's level is not really risking that much.

South Carolina's arena was the emptiest I've seen all season Saturday when LSU beat hem.
