I'll add what I know about the situation to water down some of the Bama retardation. Folks in BFE Alabama know exactly what happens at a high school in south Louisiana so I guess this will be redundant.
LSU relied on information they received from teachers/coaches/counselors from Dutchtown. As early as Lacy's sophomore year, they were told to not waste their time recruiting him citing grades and character issues. After signing day, a counselor at the school told an LSU staff member there was no way he'd step foot on Alabama's campus because his grades were irreparable.
I don't know why it's hard for Bama fans to understand LSU's lack of interest based on the information they received.

Bad grades. No shot of going to LSU. Alabama found a way to get him qualified. Very simple.

Both sides are taking this the wrong way. His grades weren't the whole deal. Lacy wouldn't have made it at LSU for the same reasons that Tyrann didn't. He would have been to close to home. He got away from the trash that surrounds lsu and prospered which is awesome for him. He is a completely different person now from when he was in high school. I remember the first day he came to Dtown. Coach saia put us all in the gym and said say hello to your new teammates and that's when all the transfers came. We kind of mingled and lacy just happened to sit by me. The dude was absolutely hilarious and never stopped laughing which made everybody laugh. Whenever he started getting lazy he stopped being like that and started picking up some bad friends. He is back to normal and that is great. Bama was great for him and anybody that knows him including myself is glad he went there. To bama and coach Saban

So was it just a case of LSU receiving bad info from Dutchtown sources?

Like I said, that doesn't jive with what Lacy's coach said a couple weeks before signing day. He said that Lacy had a 50-50 chance of qualifying and it would depend on his final exams. Also, said if he didn't qualify he would be close enough that he could go to prep school for a semester as opposed to going to JUCO for 2 years.
In the same article, Lacy stated that LSU had re-initiated contact because they had heard how much ground he had made up and how close he was to qualifying.
I have no doubt that LSU backed off Lacy because of his grades. But I think the extent of his grade situation has been exaggerated on message boards. Just read through this thread. Lot of apparent misinformation has been circulated on message board and accepted by many as fact.

not at all. He had to get 5 As on core courses he previously failed. You shouldn't be able to do that in one summer. I'm not going to speculate what went on there. That's already been mentioned in this thread. I don't have any first hand info on that.
